Harry Hole Has A “Knife!”
One of my favorite Authors, Jo Nesbo, is back soon with the latest in his series of Detective Harry Hole crime novels!
This “Wednesday Bookmobile” celebrates a terrific series of “nordic noir” detective thrillers from one of the world’s best selling Authors!
Welcome to the world of “nordic noir” – moody crime thrillers from Norway, Sweden, Finland and Denmark.
“The Thirst” was the most recently book in the series of Harry Hole detective novels – this “Dirty Harry” has been the subject of eleven books in the series to date, with the twelfth, “Knife”, due to arrive next week – July 9!
Jo Nesbo is the Authors of the books, along with a myriad of standalone titles like “Headhunters”, “Macbeth” and “The Son” – his books are beautifully written, with great stories and complex characters, perhaps no more so than Detective Harry Hole.
These are terrific thrillers – forget that “The Snowman” – book #7 in the series – was made into a horrible film – this is a rich and fully developed character that needs the printed page to come alive!
Detective Harry Hole takes on the dirty cases no one else wants – and of course, he lives by his own rules, tormented by inner demons that threaten to derail his efforts at redemption.
Each book in the series gets more satisfying and complex.
If you are intimidated by having eleven books to get through before the newest release, the first two “The Bat” and “Cockroaches” are more straightforward, and “The Redbreast”, while really good, is heavily into nordic history, so you can jump in at “Nemesis” or “The Devil’s Star” without losing too much of his story.
So this week’s “Wednesday Bookmobile” has gritty, icy cold detective thrillers from an acclaimed Author, but he’s not alone in the genre.
Equally as impressive are the series of “Department Q” thrillers as well:
This series of thrillers involves Detective Carl Morck…he’s a grizzled Copenhagen Cop who’s been put out to pasture in a new “department Q” – ice cold cases nobody wants to be bothered with…so of course he cracks them in a terrifically entertaining way…see these books in order here:
Let me know if you are looking forward to the next Harry Hole novel!

Read him years ago and forgot. Thanks for the reminder. I’m on it!

A great choice of book and author, John. My mother loves Jo Nesbo.

I have also read some of his books and enjoyed them.

I am not up with Nesbo’s books, though I did enjoy the film ‘Headhunters’, based on that novel.
Scandi-noir dramas are great to watch on TV too, like the original version of ‘The Killing’.
