Bravo Skylar Grey!
Talk about a Bottle Rock revelation!
I was introduced to this phenomenally talented Singer/Songwriter at 2019’s Bottle Rock music festival in Napa Valley California…
Holly Brook Hafermann ALA Skylar Grey, is a Singer/Songwriter who has been writing hit songs since she was 17 years old.
In 2010, Grey co-wrote Eminem and Rihanna’s hit single “Love the Way You Lie”, alongside Eminem and British record producer Alex da Kid. She has a ton of other big hits since, like the one she performed as she took the stage at 2019’s Bottle Rock.
Skylar Grey Comes Home!
Grey’s first song was”Coming Home”, which she wrote with P Diddy, Jay-Z, J. Cole, and Alex “da Kid” Grant.
It’s an interesting route to worldwide success as Grey wrote about this song:
“This is actually crazy. I wrote “Coming Home” for T.I. originally because he was getting out of prison, so it was originally written about that. But Puff wanted “Coming Home” when he heard it and the song I had originally written for Puff, which is called “Castle Walls,” ended up on T.I.’s album. So they swapped songs. The meaning of “Coming Home” changed and that’s the beauty of music: it’s open to interpretation.”
Speaking of that, here is her interpretation of “Coming Home” live on stage at Bottle Rock 2019:
Skylar played an hour’s worth of hits, and her voice was flawless. She was fun, relaxed, and self-deprecating when she announced she had recently married…and how she met her future In-Laws – pointing out that all of her tattoos made quite the first impression!
It was rainy and a bit cold during her performance, and after performing for almost 45 minutes her husband saved her by bringing out a coat for her so she didn’t freeze to death on stage!
Skylar Grey was absolutely incredible, and I’m so glad I got to see her perform so much of her music live.
Of course, Bottle Rock had more than just incredible music:
Yes, it was a food and wine festival as well, and as you can see I ate and drank my way through all of it:

More music to share soon – you can see Imagine Dragons, LovelyTheBand and Jeff Goldblum on my blog as well!
