Tokyo’s $900 Hamburger Celebrates “Beautiful Harmony”! The “Golden Giant” Burger For “Reiwa”! Plus Potato Chips With A Dusting Of Gold!

Meet “The Golden Giant!”

If you’ve got $900, I’ve got a majestic burger for you – one that has been created to celebrate a unique time in Japan’s history!

Here it is: The Oak Door Restaurant, located inside the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Tokyo has unveiled their “Golden Giant” Burger – and it looks delicious!

If you were wondering, the burger weighs 6.6 pounds!

So what exactly is on this burger? As SoraNews24 reports:

“The one-kilogram (2.2-pound) U.S. prime beef patty is topped with a sliced premium kuroge wagyu Japanese beef steak, and they’re accompanied by foie gras, cheddar cheese, Japanese-grown cherry tomatoes, and two onions’ worth of sliced onion, with even more fragrant flavor coming from the burger’s aioli sauce. When the server carries the Golden Giant Burger to your table, he’ll be accompanied by an Oak Door chef, who will freshly slice truffles before your very eyes and place them atop the burger’s fillings, before officially finishing the sandwich off by placing its top bun, treated with gold powder, atop the beefy behemoth.”

That’s right: it’s topped with GOLD POWDER.

Don’t worry, this burger comes with sides: a salad, french fries and a magnum-size bottle of wine! They say that 6-8 people can enjoy this meal – what a celebration this would be!

I love burgers, as you all know. I share stories about the biggest, hottest, and most expensive, and while $900 seems like a lot of money, this one has a more important historical reason as well.

So what’s behind this incredible new burger? A monumental time in Japan!

Celebrating The Beginning of “Reiwa!”

Here is the reason for this celebratory burger: on May 1, Japan’s Emperor Akihito will step down and be succeeded by his son, Crown Prince Naruhito. This event will mark the end of Japan’s “Heisei” era and the beginning of a new one, which you can see the symbol for here: “Reiwa”, which means “beautiful harmony.”

  1. That is a very expensive burger, John. I do like gold dust and truffles but I am not sure if on a burger is the way I would choose to eat them. Fun post.

  2. I like that the sides and wine are in proportion to the burger, and they should be for the price. Yikes. A big burger for big changes in Japan, quite the way to celebrate!

  3. Just as well it feeds so many people! Looks great though, and I love that it comes with ‘sides’ at that price. 🙂
    Best wishes, Pete.
