#shocktober Day 26 of #31daysofhorror #31daysofhalloween is a classic, ice cold shocker –
“Man Is The Warmest Place To Hide.”
With those words, Shocktober day #26 celebrates one of the greatest horror films ever: John Carpenter’s classic “The Thing!”
This iconic image reminds me of what a classic, creepy and shocking film this is – Director John Carpenter is allredy on my life for “Shocktober” – his “Halloween” is one of horror’s greatest achievements as well.
Let’s begin with the trailer for this classic film:
Scientists are housed in Antartica. It’s the first week of winter in 1982. An American Research Base is greeted by an alien force, which is able to assimilate by hiding inside anything it touches.
Kurt Russell stars in the film, along with a number of great character Actors. Remember that Russell had just done “Escape From New York” with Carpenter.

Yes indeed! Under-appreciated at the time, much like Brian DePalma’s “Blow Out” – America wanted upbeat happy endings, and both films are now considered classics, and both bombed at the time release…

‘Blow Out’ is terminally underrated here, and hardly ever shown on TV. I love that film!

Pete, The Criterion Collection released a great new blu-ray version with lots of extras – what a great film! John Travolta gave up trying to make serious films after it tanked – leading us to “Urban Cowboy”!

Yes! “Mrs. Brian DePalma” for four years, 1979-1983, she was also in “Dressed To Kill” and “Carrie” of course – and did you see her small role in the great Steven Soderbergh film “Out Of Sight?”

That DVD is R1 only, apparently. I will have to settle for my R2 copy.
I did see Out of Sight, and enjoyed Dennis Farina in that film too.
