Wild Monkeys At Our Doorstep – Singita Boulders Has Wild Animals Everywhere!

Got your attention?

Well, this Monkey got ours! You see, we shared our room with him – and many members of his family!

Welcome To Singita Boulders Safari Lodge!

That’s my wife Alex standing on the deck of our room at the Singita Boulders Lodge, located on the Sand River at the Sabi Sands preserve in South Africa.

Oh, and when we arrived there was a herd of elephants wandering around outside our room!

One of the unique aspects of our room is how many animals we saw outside – and the fact that we shared our room with Monkeys!

Here’s a baby drinking from our pool while his family looks on!

I did some research and discovered that Monkeys are everywhere here! Vervet monkey troops are commonly found moving around the lodges in South Africa…they aren’t dangerous, just pesky – watch closely as one Monkey flings himself into a tree while members of his family gather:

They are harmless for the most part, and scatter when we go outside – but we were told to keep our doors closed to keep them out – because they will ransack the room looking for food – and yes, they can open the mini-fridge!

They also love to dig into the fruit on the tree outside as well – take a look:

The small ones were very active – watch as they ran across our elevated deck and flung themselves into the tree!

From the hilarious to the truly bizarre: I was out on our deck looking for them and I found them – on the roof! Here’s the crazy video of two Monkeys badgering a small Bat, who played dead until it could fly away:

I have shared some of our Baboon adventures as well – we found a lot of them in the Okavango Delta of Botswana:

They are also very pesky, like this guy climbing up a palm tree after badgering a pride of Lions!

This was just the beginning – click on my story for more videos of this Baboon taking on an entire pride of Lions!

It is truly incredible to see all of the wildlife around us – how about this “cloud” of birds taking over a watering hole in Dinaka Botswana:

Here’s more about this fascinating phenomenon:

I also just shared our crazy encounter with an “Elephant In Musth”:

Oh, and he was right in our path!

That Elephant is in “musth” – and those are our Mokoro canoes in the marsh in front of him. Guess who didn’t go on a canoe ride that day?

Click here for the story, and who won the face off!

The Okavango Delta marshes were also a great hangout for Hippos as well!

Check this out!

Yep, this Hippo was excited to see us! Click here for our cool Hippo encounter:

By the way, we ultimately were able to do our “Mokoro” canoe ride – and it was incredible:

  2. The monkeys can be a nuisance. When we stayed at a safari lodge in Kenya, we were also warned about closing doors and larger windows when we were out, or asleep. One tourist had his expensive camera and camera bag stolen from an unlocked safari bus, and another lost her shoulder-bag with her passport and money in it while taking a late afternoon nap in her lodge with the door unlocked.

    Best wishes, Pete.

  3. Beautiful, pesky monkeys! How nice they let you share their place for a few days!
