Some of you know that my wife and I went on a Safari for the first time last summer: beginning in South Africa, followed by 3 separate lodges in Botswana and two days at Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe! Every single place we visited was amazing and the people were as well – and every night was a different sunset, like this one on the Linyanti river at Little Duma Tau in Botswana:
We discovered during our 18 days in Africa that each location offered a different, unique take on nightfall: in South Africa, the rich, lush landscape allowed the sun to capture the animals out at night in a unique way like this:

The trees and shrubs were joined by the Giraffe the were out for one last bite before bedtime…It just got better and better as the sun went down:
Once in Botswana, our three different safari locations each offered a unique landscape – for example, Dinaka is in the middle of the Kalahari desert, so we drove through the savannah as the night sky darkened:

That is the reflection of the brush across from the watering hole that is fed by underwater aquifers: while nearby, as the sun wa setting, these two Lions were fighting over who got to finish their fresh kill – literally fifteen feet in front of us:
Out next lodge was a bit further north in Botswana at the beautiful Wilderness Qorokwe resort, located in the watery Okavango Delta…and their water sunsets are stunningly beautiful and unique:
As with our other lodges, this one also offered up wild animals after dark…because as the sun was setting we drove past this incredible herd of water buffalo grazing:
Once we arrived at Little Duma Tao located on the Linyanti river, we experienced sunsets two ways:

Some nights we were on the plains like this, which gave a completely different feel to the sunset – with palm tress along the river in the distance:
Stunning indeed, but the most spectacular views were on the river itself:

While it seems a sunset like this is the perfect way to end the day…sometimes being in a Mokoro canoe on the Okavanga Delta while the sun is setting is equally magical:

And don’t forget the incredible Zambezi River in Zimbabwe…yes, the water that heads over Victoria Falls nearby…here is what a sunset looks on that river:
We also took advantage of our proximity to Victoria Falls to do a flyover that was incredible:

I’ve shared so many safari sunsets and animal sightings, but there are more as well!
See all of the nocturnal animals from our stay at Singita Boulders:
Singita was the site of a surprise nighttime encounter with a Leopard!

And that was our second Leopard encounter in just two days – and you can see them both here!

As I showed you, one of the most magical aspects of a safari are the incredible sunsets – and a traditional “boma” – here’s more of this traditional celebration here:
We had a magical safari adventure, and I’m going to continue to share the stories…I also shared this story about the freedom that the animals have here and how important safari tourism is – see why here:
