A New John Candy Documentary Is Here!
He was a great comedic Actor in films like “Splash”, “Home Alone” and of course, this brilliant comedy:

“John Candy: I Like Me”
A new documentary takes us inside the life and career of John Candy.
First and foremost: the title of this new documentary is based on a monologue that Candy improvised in the timeless classic “Planes Trains & Automobiles”. It’s a beautiful scene and it turns out it was his candid reflection on himself – he came up with this moment on his own while filming.

I cannot wait to see this insightful look at his life, with great stories from friends and family. John Candy tragically died from a heart attack in 1994 at the age of 43. I want to hear more from him about his life – because the film is filled with private home movies that have the Actor doing just that – and let’s never forget how funny he was!
As the film’s press release notes:
“Among the most beloved comedic actors in the history of film and television, John Candy was one of a kind. This inspiring, wildly entertaining documentary from director Colin Hanks celebrates Candy’s life and work through brilliantly curated archival materials and heartfelt testimonies from those who had the privilege to be part of the great man’s world.”
Here is the trailer for this documentary:
The film is directed by Colin Hanks, and it features his Dad Tom – who starred with Candy in “Splash”, as well as Steve Martin, Bill Murray and many more.
“John Candy: I Like Me” begins and ends with eulogies, one from his The Great Outdoors co-star Dan Aykroyd, the other from Candy’s SCTV teammate and fellow Torontonian Catherine O’Hara.
Between these touching tributes are candid interviews with the likes of Steve Martin, Tom Hanks, Martin Short, Eugene Levy, and Macaulay Culkin, who still remembers how kind Candy was to him as a child actor during production on Uncle Buck.

The film revisits Candy’s hilarious body of work, from the ingenious array of characters he created for SCTV to his big-screen roles in Splash, Spaceballs, Home Alone, and Planes, Trains and Automobiles — the John Hughes film from which I Like Me takes its title.
Ryan Reynolds is one of the film’s Producers, and there are some special screenings for the film, which will premiere on Amazon Prime on October 10th.

Candy made some really great films, but his greatest performance was this one:

I watch this every year, because it is, without a doubt, the greatest Thanksgiving film of all time…

“Those Aren’t PILLOWS!”
It’s a film filled with memorable lines and sight gags – here’s an in-depth look at the film:
This is a Thanksgiving tradition for me, and John Candy is sorely missed…it also reminds me to celebrate Steve Martin a bit more as well…

Steve Martin’s great comedies run the gamut from the terrific “Bowfinger” with Eddie Murphy to “The Jerk” and of course the classic “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels”:

Here are some more Steve Martin classics now available on blu-ray, including some of his best TV moments:
