Welcome To Costa Smeralda!
This is an incredible resort my wife and I stayed in. It’s on the island of Sardinia, on the “Emerald Coast” – a wonderful place to vacation, and of course, eat!

My “Food With A View” Of The Beach!
This edition of my “food with a view” series celebrates a great place to visit: Sardinia is a large Italian island in the Mediterranean Sea. It has more than one thousand miles of coastline, with sandy beaches and a mountainous interior crossed with hiking trails.
The beach of Cala di Volpe is located in the north of Sardinia in the territory of Arzachena. It’s a very famous bay, with medium-large grained sand of pale pink color and a sea with various shades of blue and in some parts transparent.

For this edition of “food with a view”, I want to share some of the incredibly fresh fish and pasta we ate on their outdoor patio, with this incredible view beyond.

Time to dig in!
Let’s get started with lunch: our goal was to go “all in” on seafood, and boy did we!

One of the great aspects of our meal is how fresh everything is…here’s is the team making a linguini with clam dish, with bottarga added:

A sprinkling of shaved bottarga at the end makes this a fresh and delicious seafood pasta! Now, time to check out more of the seafood:

We headed to the fresh fish area to choose what we wanted next…so many options, and a hot grill ready to cook!

We chose fresh Sardines – because when they are grilled whole, with a squeeze of lemon and a drizzle of olive oil, there is nothing better!

Freshly grilled Sardines with a wedge of lemon were a delicious course, then it was time for some fresh fish ceviche as well:

We returned later for a very “fiery” dinner!

We stayed on a fish time, and were not disappointed by this delicious collection of grilled and fried seafood:

We ordered another pasta dish as well – this one as a side dish:

We loved that every pasta was made fresh table side…speaking of table side: the highlight of our dinner was a “fiery” presentation in the dining room room:

Right next to us, this fiery food preparation was happening..I managed to get some video of it as well!
It was a great night of “food with a view”, especially of this fiery presentation!
One great piece of trivia about Cala di Volpe: James Bond stayed here!
Check out these fish I filmed going by our room – and see where they ended up!

Those fish led me to a terrific location for a James Bond film – see where 007 slept by clicking on my story here!
One reason I began this series was to showcase some of the most unique views we’ve had while dining in a terrific country:

Like in Lisbon Portugal, where we danged our feet over a river while dining on terrific Portugese cuisine…see it all here!
I wanted to highlight some of the great food we’ve eaten with equally incredible views…like this one:

That’s Athens below, and click here to see the incredible 360 degree view we had of the city and the sea!

This reminds me of Bora Bora, both the the view and the seafood. There’s nothing better than fresh fish, although I would need to be brave about the sardines. 🙂

My wife has been, I still haven’t…on my bucket list to be sure! I think Sardines get a bad rap from the way most people in the US experience them: heavily salted strips of preserved fish in a can or jar…a fresh Sardine is flavorful and usually served like this so smoky and slightly sweet!

I hope you get there, John! Dinner will be whatever they catch that day. Mine was mahi-mahi marinated in lime juice, not cooked. Yum! I think you’re right about how Americans experience sardines. What a bad rap they get.

The fresh fish and pasta looks lovely. I would definitely eat that, but without any cheese added.

What made this so much fun was that everything was prepared fresh for you, much of it at the table – meaning you can order it with or without anything you want! Thanks for the comment!

Wow, the view is great. You can have the sardines to yourself 😉

HA! Yes, they are an acquired taste to be sure, but grilled with salt and lemon? Sublime!

Oh – now I am somewhat peagreen with envy again! Way back Cala di Volpe was on our itinerary and did not happen. Just love the dishes you have shown . . . you can literally ‘see’ the seafood has just jumped onto the plate and your photos doit justice! Love to see the photo of the grill used – a little different from the ones in our city restaurants . . .

We loved that everything was fresh and they cooked so much of it right at your table, or finished the dish there…I mean, you aren’t rushing off to an office afterwards so it was relaxed indeed!

Grilled sardines are one of my favourites. I sometimes cook them at home, but they are best when freshly-caught and eaten in a sunny European country. 🐟
Best wishes, Pete.

Pete, that’s exactly right! The environment makes them even better! Thanks for that!
