Ahhh….movies. the great communication pal experience. A packed theater, a big star – and the worst cinematic experience of all time! And guess what? Tommy Wiseau isn’t on the list!

Relax Tommy, we will get to you.

I love this story in The Guardian.com. Their Reporter Rebecca Liu watched all 40 of the lowest rated films on Rotten Tomatoes – 0% positive reviews!

As she reported:

“Currently 40 films on Rotten Tomatoes have earned two ignoble distinctions. First, they’ve received a 0% approval rating. Second, they’ve been reviewed 20 or more times, meaning they’re usually larger productions, not small indie misfires, thus granting them a position on the website’s Worst Films of All Time list.”

This is worth mentioning again: these are NOT films that were never really exposed to public eyes: these are, in some cases, films with big budgets and big stars – but you know what they say: the higher you climb…

Here are some high – er, lowlights – beginning with an Actor who is beloved, but due to a debilitating illness began to appear in dozens of forgettable movies:

Here’s what Liu says:

Hard Kill, a 2020 Bruce Willis action vehicle, sees the star as a CEO who has to save his kidnapped science genius daughter (played by Lala Kent of reality TV show Vanderpump Rules fame). There’s the usual trappings of the genre: gun battles, a showdown between rivals, and a mission to “save the world” by preventing a technology called Project 275 falling into the wrong hands, though it’s never clear what Project 275 is.

Sadly, Willis has now retreated from acting completely, illness forcing him to retire. It’s sad that his last few years were spent making literally dozens of films like this one.

Next up, a film with a poster that says nothing – I mean, NOTHING:

Here’s the writeup for “London Fields”:

“a 2018 film by Hollywood music video director Mathew Cullen that boasted a starry cast (including Billy Bob Thornton and Amber Heard) and debuted to uniformly negative reviews: “A trashy, tortured misfire from beginning to end,” ruled the New York Times.”

“London Fields” was based on an acclaimed novel. Equally bad is when a film destroys the reputation of what had been a comedic legend:

2003’s “National Lampoon’s Gold Diggers” reminds everyone that at one point National Lampoon was known for hilarious films….oh so long ago. The review:

“It is dismissive and mean-spirited about nearly everybody, from its weedy young protagonists, who marry a pair of rich older women in the hope of killing them and collecting the money; to the women themselves, ghoulish in their “old age” (fiftysomething); to the side characters who are racist caricatures.”

National Lampoon was a hilarious magazine that started making movies, like “National Lampoon’s Vacation” and this one:

Next up, a Jim Carrey film that is so dark it may have well have been released in a tunnel!

As I said, this list has some very big stars on it. Here’s this film which you may never have heard of – I certainly hadn’t:

“Dark Crimes, meanwhile, is a gritty noir with Jim Carrey as a Polish detective whose investigations bring him into the orbit of a mysterious woman played by Charlotte Gainsbourg. With stylish cinematography, it’s one of the more technically accomplished works – within the 0% club, the quality of films varies wildly – but is boring and takes itself too seriously.”

 Let’s remember instead one of Carrey’s most hilariously entertaining films:

By the way, Carrey is one of the nicest stars you will ever meet….remember that and the good films!

Now back to the worst films of all time:

Now, movie buffs know that Tommy Wiseau’s “The Room” is widely considered one of the worst films of all time but guess what? It didn’t make the list!

“Some of the most beloved worst films of all time – Tommy Wiseau’s The Room, so silly that it still attracts rowdy audiences all over the world, to the Hitchcock-inspired misfire Birdemic: Shock and Terror – have eked out some positive reviews (Birdemic, Variety ruled, has “a goofy, almost surrealist charm”) and so don’t make the list.”

You see, “The Room” has its charms – so much so that James Franco paid tribute in a movie about the making of the movie!

Among the films on the list, one is known as the worst of the worst:

Liu explains:

“2002’s terribly named Ballistic: Ecks vs Sever. It’s been reviewed 118 times, the most for a film with a 0% rating, and so tops Rotten Tomatoes’ Worst Movies of All Time list, where it’s deemed a “startlingly inept film” featuring “wall-to-wall action without a hint of wit, coherence, style, or originality”.

There are more of course, and bravo to Liu for not only sitting through them all but for writing such an entertaining look at them . See her entire story here:

As for the Bruce Willis misfire, he was clearly doing as many films as he could in a row before his illness forced him to stop acting. There is one Nicolas Cage film on the list as well – he also went through a period of making film after film after film and guess what?

I watched 7 Nicolas Cage films in a single sitting! Why? Because in the 2010’s he made a ton of movies – and some were great! Some others? Well, you decide:

So, a day with Nicolas Cage is like any other day in your life: full of laughter, happiness, despair, angst, depression and drinking…what could be better?

And if only he had been able to make THIS!

Yes, this is a REAL costume test for Cage – he was set to make “Superman Lives” with Director Tim Burton!
