Would You Ride The World’s Highest Outdoor Elevator? Welcome To The “Hundred Dragons” Elevator!

Yes, that is an elevator – a VERY TALL outdoor elevator….in fact, the world’s tallest!

Let’s take a step back…

What A Stunning Gorge!

This beautiful valley gorge in China looks so remote and isolated…until you notice there’s an elevator on the right!

Bailong Elevator, also known as the Hundred Dragons Elevator, is a glass elevator located in the Wulingyuan area of Zhangjiajie, China. It is considered to be the world’s tallest outdoor elevator, standing at a height of 1,070 feet!

The elevator was built into the side of a cliff in the UNESCO World Heritage site of Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, and it takes visitors up to the top of the cliff where they can enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.

Construction of the Bailong Elevator began in 1999 and was completed in 2002. The elevator has three double-decker cars, each of which can carry up to 50 passengers. It is powered by a system of three powerful motors and is capable of lifting passengers at a speed of 3 meters per second.

Enjoy this video!

The Bailong Elevator is a popular tourist attraction and is visited by thousands of people each year. However, its construction and location have also been controversial due to concerns about its impact on the natural environment and the safety of passengers.

Of course, China has a never-ending series of wild places to see – like this bridge!

Was someone drinking when they built it?

Click here for a closeup look at this unique construction!

I also shared this hair-raising bridge – from China of course:

Yes, it’s just for people, it also crosses a vast canyon – and it’s not only made of glass, it cracks!

Yes, IT DOES:

Check out my story on this bridge that is also a thrill ride!

Of course, as terrifying as these walking bridges are, what about this hiking trail?

Well now, who wants to do this hike with me?

China isn’t alone in wild hiking bridges…look at this one!

This is the world’s longest walking bridge – click here to see where it is!

The elevator doesn’t seem scary to me, but I don’t think I’d like to walk on the glass bridge or the narrow hiking trail.

  5. Amazing! Although I would not be brave enough to try it. Maybe Amanda would though!

  6. I would love to try that elevator, and it is in the same general area as the glass bridge too. However, I looked up where Zhangjiajie is, and it is right in the centre of China, a long way from Shanghai or Beijing, so a special trip would be necessary.

    Best wishes, Pete.

  7. Forget it! I had enough to do with heights when I was in the paratroopers and was young and foolish
