Look at this headline!
A disastrous accident as a glass bridge shattered in places, sending one person to their death and leaving another dangling from the bridge!
As reported in The Daily Beast:
“One tourist was killed and three others were injured when a glass bridge shattered in Indonesia on Wednesday. The tragedy at The Geong—a 30-foot high popular tourist attraction in a forest in Central Java—took place as 11 visitors crossed the walkway. Two of the victims were able to cling to the bridge’s frame while two others plunged to the ground, one of whom was pronounced dead shortly after the collapse”.
The story goes on:
“According to The Jakarta Post, the manager of the bridge had been contacted shortly after the attraction officially opened in April after as many as five percent of the visitors posted online expressing concerns about the bridge’s safety standards. The manager allegedly did not show up to a requested meeting about the bridge’s safety standards, however, choosing to send a representative instead.”
Here is a local news report that has some video of the broken glass bridge – there is no footage of the injured or dead person involved:
Some of you know that I routinely share stories of wild glass bridges – including one that was designed to look like it was cracking!
Of course, it was all part of the “thrill” of crossing it – see where they do this magic act by clicking here:
China has a number of these wild glass bridges…would you cross one like this?

I am up for anything – like that time my wife Alex surprised me with this birthday adventure:
Yep, we climbed up the inside of a “via ferrata” – known as an “iron road” – and 550+ feet up I had to cross over like this:
Yes, I not only did it – I filmed it too!

Wow, you were brave, John! I’m not sure I’d cross that glass bridge.

I’m not sure I’d be brave enough to cross a glass bridge.

I don’t like heights, especially with space underneath so no… But I often think people on holiday do things they would not dream of doing at home, as if being a tourist grants them a guardian angel!
