Visionary Artist Yayoi Kusama Is A Creative Giant!
In this case – literally!
Yayoi Kusama is a visionary Japanese Artist who creates massive structural art that is imaginative and spectacularly beautiful as well – as my wife Alex and I discovered outside the Yves St. Laurent building in Paris!
Kusama was born in Japan in 1929, and is such an iconic Artist that a giant sculpture of her creating art sits on a major street in Paris!
Imagine our surprise to find this massive self-portrait in Paris, as Kusama “paints” the outside of the department store – oh, and look at this angle again:
Check out the upper right corner of the shot – that’s actually a window washer on the top of the building!
Check out this video that shows him at work – I began with the statue but realized he was in the corner of the shot so I zoomed in a bit!
Not only did we experience this run-in with Kusama, it turns out we were to meet up with her art again!
Wikipedia describes Yayoi’s work as pop art with abstract expressionism – art that is infused with autobiographic aspects as well. Kusama is acknowledged as one of the most important living Artists in the world – and the world’s top-selling female Artist!
This photo was related to her latest traveling exhibit – which happened to be in New York – so Alex and I got to this her magical work up close!
Yayoi Kusama’s New York Exhibition!
As you can see, this unique yellow sculpture with black dots is one of her works of art touring the world right now – and we waited an hour in line in New York to see it!
Alex read that the exhibit was in its final days, so we raced over to see it…here’s a bit of video of just how sprawling this work is:
It turns out, this was just one of the areas to explore – next up was the hall of flowers:
Again, wildly colorful, giant flowers sit int he middle of a large space, allowing you to wander through like this:
As this wall of art showed, Kusama works with a wide swath of color – which was made vividly clear in the highlight of the exhibit – the “immersion room!”
The one hour wait to get in was because of the “immersion room” – a square box that you are allowed in for two minutes – and this is what you get:
Overall, an incredible display of creativity from an Iconic Artist!
The “immersive” experience is being used to celebrate many great Artists:
“Gogh Big Or Gogh Home!”
Yes, I actually used that when I shared a look at our immersive Van Gogh experience..click here to see some videos of what we entered!
This was a great experience: you let the art wash over you in a way – beautiful imagery, music and vibe…bravo to the group behind this!
This new take on art reminds me of the incredible “body painting” festivals that use the human body as a work of art!
I also shared an incredible Artist who incorporated Models in these shots of nature’s seasons:
Yes, there is a Model in this photo – click here to see where!

Not really my thing – sorry. I prefer the more traditional kind of art.

She is currently the most successful female artist int he world and I appreciate her style – but understand it has a “pop culture” vibe that isn’t very traditional at all – we all have our own taste for what resonates with us, right? I always appreciate the comments!
