The Magical Beauty Of Venice Italy At Night! From Watery San Marco Square’s Live Music To The Smallest Streets!

The Beauty Of Nightfall In Venice!

I have posted about how beautiful Venice is, but now I want to focus on a city that becomes even more magical as night falls, like it is doing here on the “bridge of sighs…”

As lights are turned on, the last Gondoliers finish their day, and everywhere you turn there is a new photo op:

As darkness settles in, things that were beautiful in sunlight become even more fascinating….

Alex and I wandered through Venice one night – starting at the most popular attraction in the city:

Welcome To San Marco Square For A Night Full Of Music!

Yes, as night falls in Venice, San Marco Square stays alive with crowds of people gathering in the courtyard to listening to live music being performed in the cafes that ring the square!

Several restaurants have seating in the courtyard, where you pay a small fee and order drinks, while music is performed for you live – take a look:

Recently there was a report that 70% of Venice was underwater due to a very high tide…when we were there, there was a sheen of water an inch deep in many parts of San Marco Square:

After the performance, we wandered through some parts of Venice that weren’t for tourists – small alleyways that were desolate and almost eerie:

No matter how many side streets you wander, all roads lead back to the Rialto Bridge, where night gives you a whole new view of Venice:

By the time we got back to our hotel, the city has begun to slow down, so we sat at our bar and had one last drink, with this view of the Grand Canal…

Our trip to Venice was really memorable for so many reasons, like the Water Taxis that showcase the Grand Canal when you are on them:

I love these rides! One day we took a Water Taxi to Murano to see Artisans there create works of art out of glass:

Click here to see video of a Stallion created from a blob of molten glass in two minutes!

But is this classic form of artistic craftsmanship at risk of disappearing forever?

See my sobering report here:

One of the most entertaining things about Venice is arriving there, especially when you do it by boat!

You can see more of our arrival here:

  5. I am envious of Venice. One place I have never been to. I was put off by tales of ‘too many tourists’, so went to Rome instead. (Which I enjoyed immensely) The way things are going, I fear that lovely city might well be under water before too long, so you were lucky to experience its grandeur when you could.
    Best wishes, Pete.
