Elizabeth Holmes was a “dropout” – oh, and a billionaire. She invented a device that could perform more than one hundred blood tests immediately – all from a single drop of blood.
Except she didn’t. And this absolutely riveting new HULU series tells her story.
Here’s the trailer:
As they say in the promotion for the series:
“Money. Romance. Tragedy. Deception. Hulu’s limited series “The Dropout,” the story of Elizabeth Holmes (Amanda Seyfried) and Theranos, is an unbelievable tale of ambition and fame gone terribly wrong. How did the world’s youngest self-made female billionaire lose it all in the blink of an eye?”
“The Dropout” stars Amanda Seyfried as Elizabeth Holmes and Naveen Andrews as Sunny Balwani. Seyfried gives the performance of a lifetime, capturing every nuance to this woman, who quoted Yoda constantly, believing in a lie so completely that you pity her – except you can’t, because she defrauded investors and put patient’s lives at risk.
Naveen Andrews, who was also mesmerizing on the TV series “LOST”, shows us the very dark side to Sunny Balwani, who is about to go on trial for the crimes that Holmes has been convicted of already.
The limited series also includes a terrific line up of guest stars like Utkarsh Ambudkar, Kate Burton, Michel Gill, LisaGay Hamilton, William H. Macy, Elizabeth Marvel, Laurie Metcalf, Dylan Minnette, Alan Ruck, Sam Waterston, Michaela Watkins and more.
This is a “must watch!”
My wife Alex and I went immediately back to HBO for their riveting documentary about Holmes as well…see more about it here:

I just watched an episode of American Greed with Elizabeth Holmes—quite a fascinating tale.

Yes, a sad story of someone with a dream that they refuse to accept is just that. Thanks for commenting!

Having already seen the documentary, I wasn’t sure either – but it’s a really detailed look at what went on, and the acting and script is terrific! Thanks for reading and commenting, always great to hear from you!

This is fascinating! Every back story is a layer of who you are and why. I have taught some Elizabeth’s.

The true story was fascinating, and this looks like a great recreation of it. I don’t have access to Hulu though.
Best wishes, Pete.

The depth of the storytelling is terrific Pete…you see her grow into a woman who really belies in what she is doing – even though it’s clearly all a scam..reminded me of the “Fire Fest” documentaries.

Very excited to watch this! The trial was up here – so lots of coverage and I saw Tyler Shultz speak at the World Healthcare Congress in 2019.

It’s terrific and mesmerizing the entire way! I was lucky to get access to the first 5 episodes as Amanda was on my wife’s show to promote it…she’s incredible!
