Here Are Santorini’s Incredibly Colorful Rooftop Photo Shoots! Video Sunsets On The Aegean Sea!

Welcome To Santorni’s Wildly Colorful Photo Shoots!

My wife Alex and I had the most incredible time recently, when we went to Greece for the first time – but not the last!

I recently shared this photo shot from our hotel room, of a colorful photo shoot directly below us – because our Hotel’s domed roofs were the perfect spot for a Santorini specialty: the photo op!

This was also the view from my room, because the entire hillside facing the island’s incredible sunset becomes the backdrop of these photo shoots: women rent these gorgeous flowing dresses and pose for professional Photographers!

This is the view of the island’s Caldera – which is a large volcanic crater, formed by a major eruption on Santorini, leading to the collapse of the mouth of the volcano. As it fills in with the Aegean Sea, you can literally see the far edge of what remains.

Here’s a look at what we woke up to every morning:

It’s the perfect backdrop for a photo, but it’s not just women who do it – check out this video I shot from my room – showing the caldera and a shoot underway below us:

As you can see, this is a tradition that the island loves to accommodate!

This is the church roof that everyone uses – it’s just a few rooms below us – here it is from Skaros Rock, looking at the entire hotel on the hillside – the church is the lowest building on the right:

One reason it’s a perfect location is that the sun rises behind us, so I was either shooting back into the early morning shade or into pure sunlight – making the western looking Caldera a perfect backdrop all day and night – here’s more proof!

Here’s another video of a shoot going on around us as the sun was setting:

It was so much fun to sit on our own domed roof and watch the action below us – yes, we had a domed roof and Alex posed for me as well:

As you can see, sunset was underway, and I will be sharing video and photos of the most incredible sunsets we have ever seen….oh, and remember the backdrop that is Skaros Rock?

Well, you can climb it – and we did!

Click here to see the story of one of the most terrifying climbs we ever made!

And as for that Caldera – did you know there’s a path to walk almost seven miles of it?

So of course we did!

Here’s the story of our trek to the town of Oia, the 90+ degree heat, and the meal that followed!

    • Robbie, one of the most popular things to do is hire a professional photographer to do this with you…they are for wedding photos, personal use…these are just regular people not Models…they take you all over the island to do it with different things behind you!

  4. Are you using a laser-pointer on the video clips, John? I wondered what the small green light was, dancing around the scene. It certainly is a great holiday island, and you seem to have had the perfect location in the hotel too.
    Best wishes, Pete.
