A Fish Pedicure! It’s Real – And I Had It! Welcome To Santorini’s Fish Spa! “What The Friday!?!?!” A Bonus Souvlaki!

Check the second line of this poster.

What to say about a company with a treatment that promises to “nibble and suck away the dry skin on your feet.”

I say this:

“What The Friday!?!?!?”

Welcome To Thira, Santorini!

Also know as Fira, this centrally located town on the Greek Island of Santorini is perched on top of the caldera, with the incredible remnants of a volcano crater below:

We were staying in Imerovigli, the small town perched atop the crater. We walked to Thira from our hotel…15 minutes along a beautiful pathway that led us past classic Santorini architecture:

Once you get to the town, you can explore the pedestrian-only walkways with tons of shops all around you:

Including this one.

Welcome to “Fish Spa Santorini.” This nicely laid out shop had a sign that caught Alex’s eye:

Alex saw a unique way to get a pedicure.

I saw this:

“nibble and suck away the dry skin on your feet.”

It’s right there at the top of the sign. It just sounds wrong.

So of course, I joined Alex for this adventure! Here’s what happened:

First, a few things to explain.

Someone washes your feet before you put on special slippers and walk to your seat, and I had the smallest scratch on top of my foot, so they put that square white band-aid on it…

Second, it tickles. As soon as you put your feet in the cool water, the fish attack, and your initial reaction is to wiggle your toes and try to get them to leave you alone.

But they won’t.

They also don’t stick with your feet. They will climb up your leg until they get to the top of the water, and they never slow down.

the entire process lat fifteen minutes, and it’s a funny, easy treatment that left my feet feeling smoother, so no harm done, right?

Alex let everyone on Instagram know what we were up to:

She was right: no one could believe she got me to do it, but you know what? I will do anything for her!

Also, she enticed me with this promise:

Lucky’s Souvlakis!

Alex read about the best Souvlaki in Santorini, and we wandered the alleyways until we found it!

Here what you get: chopped grilled lamb with red onion, tomato, lettuce, traditional greek sauce and of course, French fries!

Our Souvlaki was made with small pieces of grilled meat skewered on a stick, while a gyros consists of slices of meat shaved from a vertical rotisserie like this.

They are both delicious, and we had a great meal after our pedicure!

So there you have it – first the fish ate, then we did!

It was just one of our many adventures on the incredible Greek Island of Santorini:

This is Skaros Rock, which is part of the caldera that is the centerpiece of the island:

You can see the entire rim of the volcano that we were perched on, and of course we had to climb that rock – it was even more dangerous than it looked and you can see us tackle it here:

It was just one of our great Greek adventures, another one was seeing the Temple Of Poseidon up close!

This amazing trip back in time took place at the southernmost tip of the European continent, and you can see it all here:

I also shared our incredible meal when we were on the island of Mykonos:

Acclaimed Chef Jason Atherton and his team really knew how to creative culinary magic – see the entire review here:

  4. I was a bit dubious at first, but it is nice to know I can be talked into having my feet nibbled by fish for a bribe of Souvlaki afterward!!!

  8. They opened one of those fish pedicure places in a shopping centre in Watford (near London) years ago. I took Julie and her twin daughters there for a jokey treat, and watched as the fish nibbled their feet. They enjoyed it, but didn’t think it did that much to help their feet.
The place closed down not long after. Seemed like it didn’t attract the shoppers of Watford in enough numbers to keep going. 🙂
    Best wishes, Pete.
