Welcome To Mykonos!
It’s one of the most beautiful places in the world: the greek island of Mykonos, an iconic party island in the Aegean Sea…at night, the view from the Santa Marina Resort is simply spectacular:
The Santa Marina Resort is incredible: and as you can see, they have the most spectacular views on the island…and they also have a new restaurant that is as incredible as this view:
Welcome To The New Mykonos Social!
The Santa Marina has just opened a new restaurant called Mykonos Social – as the resort proudly announces:
“Mykonos Social is Michelin-starred Jason Atherton’s first restaurant in the Mediterranean promising a bespoke, all-day dining destination. Offering a selection of refreshing Mediterranean and Greek dishes and creative cocktails, perfect for long summer days by the beach and fine dining, complimented by a special wine selection for the evenings.”
My Wife Alex and I enjoyed a drink one night in the restaurant, with the spectacular view behind us…the next day, we sat down for lunch to see for ourselves what Atherton and Greek-born Executive Chef Kostas Papathanasiou had to offer!
We showed up for lunch, and were immediately greeted by the terrific Manager Nils Cassignol who works with Chef Atherton on his new restaurants…it was only a few days since they opened, and he was still intently focused on all aspects of the dining experience…he was also a really terrific person – in fact, the entire staff was phenomenal!
As you can see, the restaurant is on the patio right underneath some of the hotel suites…we started with a collection of traditional Greek dips and a truly unique bread:
Time now to turn some of the review over to Alex, who shared these incredible photos of the meal to come on Instagram, beginning with a gorgeously presented salad:
What a beautiful work of culinary art! Round discs of fresh watermelon hold delicious chunks of beets and cheese…
Spanikopita is a traditional Greek Spinach Pie, and it is savory and satisfying – but not heavy at all…in fact, Executive Chef Pathanasiou has a perfect balance to his food – and as you will see, the presentations are simply gorgeous:
First of all, we LOVE Sea Bream…and served as a ceviche was a terrific way to enjoy it, especially when they add the delicate sauce:
Next up is the dish of the day in Alex’s opinion – and while every dish so far was great, this was a work of culinary art to be sure:
From the plating to the flavors, this was a spectacular dish…in fact, the freshness of the flavors were never obscured by too much sauce or spice…again, Greek-born Executive Chef Kostas Papathanasiou keeps the freshness of the sea intact…next up, I had to have one of my favorite foods: squid two ways!
Squid Two Ways!
I can’t get enough Squid, so this was a treasure for me! Delicately grilled one way and fried rings the next – with a black squid ink sauce as well – loved it!
Again, beautiful culinary art on display here…but it only works if it also taste great, and in that respect, the Mykonos Social truly delivers!
Now, one last truly classy touch: Alex and I had been up at 4a that morning to find out she won the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Entertainment Talk Show…and Nils had this brought to us for dessert:
That night, while we were having a celebratory drink, this happened over Mykonos:
What a fitting end to our incredible visit!
This is just one of our many adventures in Greece:
It all began with a trip to The Acropolis to see The Parthenon – a walk through history to be sure!

Thanks Robbie – it was so great! The Chef came out to meet us afterwards and was justifiably proud of his food – especially adhering to the classics from his culture!

It all looks so beautiful…I am a fan of Jason Atherton…I also am not a fan of watermelon but I can imagine on the same plate as beets and feta it would be delicious 🙂

I have eaten a lot of food in Greece and Crete, but nothing on a par with that feast! The resort you stayed at must be a very special place indeed.
Best wishes, Pete.

Mykonos always has that air of luxury about it. I’ve never been but I do associate it with beautiful weather, a laid back approach and gorgeous scenery.
The Mykonos Social sounds like it fits in very well, and awesome staff can make so much difference to any dining or drinking experience, can’t it?
As for the food, all of the dishes look like works of art. Very fancy and beautifully done. The dessert was so sweet of them, too. And literal fireworks to end the evening – amazing!!
