Ready For Some “Tuna Corn Curry” Potato Chips?
Yes, they exist, and not only that, they are popular!
The Japanese snack company Calbee once held a national poll to determine three new flavor combos, and boy, did the voters ever speak loudly!
The company got more than 460,000 submissions, and the winners of the flavor poll were: “Gomayo Ponzu” (roasted sesame, mayonnaise and ponzu vinegar), “Sour Cream and Hotate” (sour cream and Japanese scallop) – and of course “Tuna Corn Curry!”
“Tuna Corn Curry” Potato Chips – What The Friday!?!?!
Yes, that is a real potato chip flavor – but don’t worry, it’s just the tip of the wacky iceberg! Here are the other two packages for their winning entires:
Avocado Cream Cheese Chips Anyone?
As I said, there are many more than those three to share – maybe you’d enjoy the more soothing taste of “Avocado Creme Cheese” Potato Chips…I say “YES YES YES” to that!
“Melty Cheese Pizza” Potato Chip Anyone?
Calbee has apparently never seen a potato chip flavor it didn’t love – so what about you? How does this take on pizza sound?
They also offer a more straightforward “Seaweed And Salt” flavor as well!
And what about these coffee-flavored potato chips?
“They Taste Like Chaos!”
Yes, that’s how a Reporter for the terrific website SoraNews24 once described them! I love that line – hard to imagine how “coffee potato chips” could be anything BUT!
And of course, you can pucker up and attempt these:
Super Sour Lemon Potato Chips!
Calbee also offers these chips, which even come with a warning! It’s at the bottom of the package, and if you can make it out, be warned!
But nothing can prepare your mouth for the taste of this:
Steak Sandwich Potato Chips!
A potato chip that tastes like a steak sandwich? I mean, this almost sounds normal!
Lays may own much of the US potato chip market, and they have been playing with a lot of new flavors in the past few years, but they still don’ sell these ones in the US yet:
Lay’s “Grilled Squid” Potato Chips!
Alright, calm down…I would eat these! Along the same lines, why not try their “Spicy Crayfish” potato chips as well?
Still, one of the most intriguing potato chip flavors I have ever heard of are these Lays chip from China:
Pepsi Chicken Potato Chips!
Yes, Pepsi is beloved in China, and it is boiled down to a thick sauce that is served on chicken! And not only that, they offer “hot and sour soup” potato chips as well! See them here:
And not to forget about our friends at Calbee in Japan who also offer up this unique burger:
The “Potato Chip” Burger!
That’s right, there’s no meat, just potato chips stuffed between these buns!
And finally, I have shared some of the most disgusting potato chip flavors as well:
Are they real?

I like some of these combinations, John. Avo and cream cheese does sound nice. The winning combinations don’t appeal to me though.

The avocado and cream cheese chips sound great! I guess when it comes to flavours for chips, the sky’s the limit.

You showcased some off the wall flavours, John. As you know, we call them ‘Crisps’ here, and the only flavour I like is ‘Lightly Salted’. I’m a bit boring when it comes to crisps! 🙂
Best wishes, Pete.

One of my all time favourite chips flavour was wasabi chips that was unfortunately discontinued. I discovered that if I eat chips and wasabi covered peas at the same time the flavour is very similar 🙂
