Seeing Sharks Up Close – From Underwater!
One reason I love to travel is because the world is filled with natural – and human-made marvels like this underwater Aquarium!
Yes, the fish swim all around you!
Welcome To Shanghai’s Incredible Underwater Aquarium!
I found this image and was immediately intrigued, and it led me to a technological marvel that gets you “up close and personal” with some very cool fish!
Let’s take a step back – to 1903, when the first escalator was unveiled to an amazed public:
A century later, modern technology took the next step forward by making the escalator functional underwater!
Shanghai’s ocean Aquarium is a gorgeous, modern marvel with lots and lots of fish to see!
This spacious and well-lit aquarium is filled with a great selection of Asian fish.
The highlight is when you arrive and find the impressive tunnels that take you under the tanks and allow you to be surrounded by fish.
Designed by Advanced Aquarium Technologies, the aquarium includes a 551 ft long tunnel that takes visitors through a coastal reef, open ocean, a kelp cave, shark cove, and a coral reef, and is one of the longest such tunnels in the world.
These unique underwater tunnels take you through several exhibit “zones,” including China Zone, South America Zone, Africa Zone,
Bravo to the Shanghai Aquarium for taking fish fans closer than ever to the incredible underwater beauty on display!
I am a huge fan of sea life and Aquariums that celebrate it – and I shared some of my favorite shots form California’s incredible Monterey Aquarium:
The incredible display of Jellyfish has to be seen to be believed – and you can see it all by clicking on my story here:
The Chinese seem to love taking everything to the next level – like this!
Yes, it’s a five story indoor slide – inside a shopping mall!

So do I…the Monterey Aquarium is incredible.! As, as a film fan, you’d love that the restaurant used in “Play Misty For Me” is just a few blocks away! We’ve eaten there and it still looks exactly the same inside!

The Sydney Aquarium has a tunnel like this. It’s marvelous. (Oops, I see you said that already in the feed.) Between the tunnel and a night at the Sydney Opera House, honestly, they are highlights of a decade, if not my whole life. 🙂

I would love this! There is a tunnel aquarium in Norfolk, VA, but it’s nothing like this.

The Aquarium is amazing. We have two very nice ones in South Africa. Not quite as spectacular as these but very good.

The London Aquarium also has a tunnel where the fish swim around you. Not as impressive as the Shanghai one though. 🙂
Best wishes, Pete.

I love this new way to give people a new way to explore…I saw the one in Sydney Australia but it wasn’t an escalator…

That Aquarium looks awesome! I always like to visit the local zoos and aquariums when I travel. I’m putting this on my bucket list along with the Monterey jellies!

Thanks for commenting! I was underwater at Sydney Australia’s Aquarium but don’t think it had an escalator…either way it’s a great new way to explore!
