“Please scream inside your heart.”
Why do I love Japan? This is just another reason.
“No Scream” Roller Coasters!
When theme parks in Japan reopened over the summer, they had one simple rule:
No screaming.

Japan’s Tokyo Dome is shown before amusement rides began to reopen in the country. Japanese amusement park operators have asked people on rides at some parks not to scream.
News outlets around the world covered this story, and this phrase summed up all of 2020.
“Please scream inside your heart.”
When Japan lifted their state of emergency, a group of major theme park operators introduced a set of guidelines on how to ensure the safety of both guests and staff in the face of Covid-19.
And they asked Guests not to scream!
Instead, their request was simple:
“Scream Inside Your Heart.”
I love this line, and I implore everyone to wear a mask, stay socially distant, and work together to eradicate this plague that is killing so many around the world.
Japan has many unique ways to deal with the pandemic, like this drive-thru haunted house!
How cool is this?
You can click my story to see how scary a drive-thru haunted house can be!
I would also stay in a haunted house – or in this case, a haunted HOTEL:
That’s right: it’s haunted! The Monarch Hotel has a variety of creepy “death rooms” to sleep in – see more details by clicking on my story here:

That is hilarious! I never screamed on rides either, probably just frozen in fear with a death grip on the safety bar..

Same here, and after my “almost upside down” power failure on the Harry Potter coaster, my days riding are OVER! Thanks for commenting!

Yep, 2020 – wear a mask, stay socially distanced and scream inside your heart. Funny, I used to ride roller coasters all of time (my parents live 10 miles from Cedar Point, a huge amusement park with a lot of roller coasters) and never, ever understood screaming while riding. I guess I was just boring 😉

Thanks for the comment, I never screamed either, but always enjoyed trying to look bored or distracted during the part of the Disney rides where they take a photo of everyone screaming!

lol, I’ve done that, like pretending to look at my nonexistent watch, or perhaps yawning… They never looked as good as I had hoped, but still fun.

Right? It’s an art to do it right, but always fun to try…I also did an exaggerated scream last time that turned out kinda funny! Great to hear from you!

I wonder if it’s healthy to keep that much emotion inside your heart? Interesting approach. My daughter and I watched the videos of those two guys riding the rollercoaster in total silence, very impressing..

I don’t think I’ll ever be able not to scream in a roller coaster although I’ve never been on a huge one like that, plus it’s challenging . I probably just stay at home and watch people’s videos of being on the roller coaster and screaming their heart out. Thanks for coffee!

A few weeks ago, our local theme park “Kings Island” did a video of the new roller coaster that was supposed to open this year. There, from the privacy of my computer screen, I watched it, intently. Yes, I even screeched a few times (I was in public, so couldn’t scream or I would have). I experienced the dropping stomach, head spin, etc. I hate roller coasters, mind you, but watching it was almost as good as doing it. Especially when I wouldn’t be caught dead getting on one in real life….

But screaming on a roller coaster is about the only place I like to scream. . .
What to do now?
It has been many years since I’ve been on one, so maybe I too have reached that place where I simply should not be risking those who share the ride with me. If they would be injured by the microbes issued by my scream, I don’t think I want to know the effect that the high-velocity contents of my stomach would have.
Ummm, Now that I think about it, sorry about that visual.

HA! I agree, but I will never go on one again after getting stuck half upside down inside the darkened Harry Potter coaster – true!

Good advice for all of 2020! 🙂 I used to love roller coasters. The last one I went on – perhaps forever – was at California Adventure. Great fun, but impossible to do without screaming.

I would never scream anyway, it is far to demonstrative for me especially in public [smile].

I wouldn’t be on those things in the first place, they make me feel ill! 🙂
Best wishes, Pete.

Pete, I used to love them, then last year my grown up kids and I did one inside a darkened building…the kind where you hang below the track, and they flip you over a few times as well…and the power went out with me halfway upside down….only lasted a minute, but when we got out I turned to them and said: “that’s it. You just saw me on my last amusement ride EVER.”

I love it. I will be sure to practice screaming inside my heart. Actually, I think I’m pretty good at it.
