RIP Chadwick Boseman…

The world is in mourning today over the sad news that Actor Chadwick Boseman died Friday of colon cancer. He was 43. Boseman died at his home in the Los Angeles area with his wife and family by his side, his publicist told the Associated Press.

Boseman was diagnosed with colon cancer four years ago, his family said in a statement. “A true fighter, Chadwick persevered through it all, and brought you many of the films you have come to love so much,” his family said. “From Marshall to Da 5 Bloods, August Wilson’s Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, and several more—all were filmed during and between countless surgeries and chemotherapy. It was the honor of his career to bring King T’Challa to life in Black Panther.” Boseman had not spoken publicly about his diagnosis.

Born in South Carolina, Boseman graduated from Howard University and had small roles in television before his first star turn in 2013’s hit film “42” , playing the first black Major League Baseball player, Jackie Robinson.

Boseman died on a day that Major League Baseball was celebrating Jackie Robinson Day.

Boseman also played iconic singer James Brown in the hit film “Get On Up!”

His last movie role was in Spike Lee’s film “Da 5 Bloods”, playing the leader of a group of Black soldiers in the Vietnam War.

But of course, he will forever be remembered as T’Challa, heir to the hidden but advanced kingdom of Wakanda, who must step forward to lead his people into a new future and must confront a challenger from his country’s past.

Comments from fellow performers have flooded the internet since his death was announced. Angela Bassett, who starred with him in “Black Panther”, posted this on Instagram:

“This is a crushing blow,” actor and director Jordan Peele said on Twitter, one of many expressing shock as the news spread across social media. “This broke me,” actor and writer Issa Rae posted.

As Deadline.com reports, his other Marvel family also posted comments.

“Your legacy will live on forever,” Marvel Studios wrote in a note next to an image of Boseman as Black Panther.

Don Cheadle bid fond farewell to Boseman, with him he shared the screen as well as a birthday. “I will miss you, birthday brother. you were always light and love to me. my god.”
