RIP Chadwick Boseman…
The world is in mourning today over the sad news that Actor Chadwick Boseman died Friday of colon cancer. He was 43. Boseman died at his home in the Los Angeles area with his wife and family by his side, his publicist told the Associated Press.
As Newser reports:
Boseman was diagnosed with colon cancer four years ago, his family said in a statement. “A true fighter, Chadwick persevered through it all, and brought you many of the films you have come to love so much,” his family said. “From Marshall to Da 5 Bloods, August Wilson’s Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, and several more—all were filmed during and between countless surgeries and chemotherapy. It was the honor of his career to bring King T’Challa to life in Black Panther.” Boseman had not spoken publicly about his diagnosis.
Born in South Carolina, Boseman graduated from Howard University and had small roles in television before his first star turn in 2013’s hit film “42” , playing the first black Major League Baseball player, Jackie Robinson.

Comments from fellow performers have flooded the internet since his death was announced. Angela Bassett, who starred with him in “Black Panther”, posted this on Instagram:
“This is a crushing blow,” actor and director Jordan Peele said on Twitter, one of many expressing shock as the news spread across social media. “This broke me,” actor and writer Issa Rae posted.
As Deadline.com reports, his other Marvel family also posted comments.
“Your legacy will live on forever,” Marvel Studios wrote in a note next to an image of Boseman as Black Panther.
The studio’s president/chief creative officer and Black Panther producer Kevin Feige penned a moving tribute to Boseman.
“Chadwick’s passing is absolutely devastating,” Feige said. “He was our T’Challa, our Black Panther, and our dear friend. Each time he stepped on set, he radiated charisma and joy, and each time he appeared on screen, he created something truly indelible. He embodied a lot of amazing people in his work, and nobody was better at bringing great men to life. He was as smart and kind and powerful and strong as any person he portrayed. Now he takes his place alongside them as an icon for the ages. The Marvel Studios family deeply mourns his loss, and we are grieving tonight with his family.”
“Chadwick was someone who radiated power and peace. Who stood for so much more than himself,” Brie Larson wrote next to a photo of her and Boseman.
Samuel L. Jackson called Boseman “a talented & giving artist & brother who will be sorely missed.”
“THANK YOU @chadwickboseman for all you gave us,” he wrote on Twitter. “We needed it & will always cherish it!”
Don Cheadle bid fond farewell to Boseman, with him he shared the screen as well as a birthday. “I will miss you, birthday brother. you were always light and love to me. my god.”
RIP to a great Actor who broke through long-standing barriers in entertainment, and brought to life the rich history of so many important figures…

This is a fantastic tribute to a truly incredible man and talented actor. His loss has been very difficult to stomach. I’ll never forget his impact in our culture, in the black community, and even within my own life as a Marvel lover.

Gone too soon, but his legacy will live on. I can’t help but think that even through his pain, he gave so much of himself. I must admit I haven’t seen his other movies except for Black Panther for which he was brilliant. I’m putting the rest on to watch list. Thank you for writing this beautiful tribute.

I had not heard about Mr. Boseman’s passing John. Too sad. I’m not much of an actor fan, but I recall thinking that Boseman did an amazing job with Black Panther and now any followup story will have to bring in someone else. I don’t know if one was planned but would have loved to see one with the original cast.
RIP Sir Boseman.

Gary, thanks for the comment…in fact, there was a delay in beginning the film and no reason was given, this may have been why…it will no doubt be recast, but what a loss…

Such a terrible loss. I am reminded of Jack Lemmon. During the final years of his life, he, too, was privately battling cancer.

My good friend worked with Lemmon on a film and said he was a consummate professional and true gentleman…and boy, what an Actor…your comment ihas prompted me to do a “Cult Movie Monday” segment just highlighting some of his best films – it will be tough because there are SO many! Look for it on Labor Day!

It was only a couple of weeks ago I watched 21 Bridges and chatted with someone about how much I loved Boseman. I still can’t quite believe it. I saw it on the news this morning and it brought tears to my eyes. I Tweeted, and still couldn’t quite believe it. To think he was still filming over the years he was having surgeries and treatments, and modern science couldn’t save him, the kind and talented soul that he was. Life seems incredibly unfair sometimes.
RIP Chadwick 🌹 This is a wonderful tribute to him, John.
