Time To Take A Walk On The Beach!
That’s my wife Alex, soaking up the sun and the sea – a “socially distanced” getaway for a few days!
My latest “Six Shot Saturday” series comes from a beach in Malibu, California – sitting on the Pacific Ocean with expansive views and spectacular sunsets…
“Six Shot Saturday” Has #Wanderlust!
It’s a unique time in history: a worldwide pandemic that has changed the ways we live our lives…no travel, millions left without work, parents not sure when and if their children can go back to school – so much has been turned “upside down” for all of us – so my wife and I rented a house on the beach for a few days to take a deep breath and try to have a semblance of normalcy – and the beauty of nature does that for us…
These six shots capture a few days of relaxation in the midst of the pandemic – starting with a glass of wine as we looked at the ocean – and then we took a walk on the beach to see nature creating a beautiful landscape of run:
While we relaxed, we also did work, and some physical activities as well, which Alex dutifully noted on her Instagram account – as you can see, I love the water:
OK, we all know that’s not me, but I did have fun with the people who asked…and I also shared this as an example of what I could do if I chose to:
We were warned that winter storms had caused a lot of beach erosion, and some of the underlying rocks were noticeable for the first time ever: as you can see, they house a lot of Mussels, which normally wouldn’t be seen above water – and some had not been exposed for so long they had the chance to grow a nice green lawn:
Since the tide comes in twice a day, we got the chance to see the force of nature in the waves throughout the day and night:
And while my iPhone doesn’t capture great pictures in the dark, we also were able to watch the sunset, and the moon rise over Santa Monica to the south:
For those of you who read me regularly, you know the I’ve shared some unique Malibu sunsets before:
What could be more spectacular than this?
Well, what if you were drinking a Dry Martini at the same time, then it would look like this!
I shared some gorgeous shots of Malibu in a series called “life thru liquid” – you can see more of my life though beverages by clicking on the story here:
I have also shared a lot of the marine life I’ve come across in Malibu, but this is by far the most unique:
Yes, they are wild blue Jellyfish!
I you want to see more up close and find out what exactly they are, just click on my story here:

These photos of Malibu and life in and around the sea are glorious. I just spent a week at the NJ shore (long wide beaches, cold water, rough waves) and it was glorious in different ways than the Pacific Coast. I have been to Santa Monica many times and love visiting there and watching the wild life (also called human beings). 🙂

What a beautiful place for a getaway. This pandemic has really made us appreciate being together with nature and nothing else. It’s almost a relief as much as a pleasure. Today hubby and I drove through the back roads of Vermont with the top down, nothing but green and wind and big sky. It wasn’t Malibu, but it was the same piece of heaven.

Nice photos. You asked about viewing nature. Well I spent about an hour today watching a falcon in one of the trees. The when it left several red cardinal amused me. I can sit on my deck and watch all kinds of wildlife in my little woods and little pond. Right across the road is a wildlife refuge. I am so blessed without leaving home.

Beautiful pictures! There’s nothing like being at the beach and watching the waves roll in! And glad you were able to get in some surfing and paddle boarding, if only vicariously!

Wow, it sounds & looks idyllic. I’m not jealous. Not one bit. Honestly. Nope.
Next time you decide to rent a house on the beach, give me a call? I’m short, I can fit in the hand luggage.
I hope it was a good short getaway for the both of you to get a little relax & recuperation time, just what the doctor ordered I imagine. xx

Glad to hear you managed to get some valuable chill time at the beach, John. We just booked a 5-day getaway to the Licolnshire coast in September. It won’t be anything like Malibu, but will make a change from being in Beetley since March. Now hoping that the ‘second wave’ restrictions don’t force the holiday accommodation to close!
Best wishes, Pete.
