Bite Into This Mustard Ice Cream! “What The Friday!?!?!” An “Ice Dog” Hot Dog And Mustard Ice Cream Sandwich Too!

Life In Quarantine!

Sitting at home. Being a good citizen as we fight off this pandemic. Cooking, eating, surfing – the internet. And reacting to what all of you are sending me.

My blogging friend “Fancy Paper Girl” – who has the “Fancypaperblog” – sent me this photo, knowing I would jump on it to find out more and share with all of you with this question:

“What The Friday!?!?!?!?!”

She sent me that photo, and I thought it was a funny lark – until I discovered THIS!

Yes, I might be going a bit “stir crazy” due to the #Shelteringathom, but when wacky food pops up in my in-box, I haver to react!

The French’s Mustard Ice Cream was just the tip of the iceberg – because as you can see, they also made a mustard ice cream sandwich!

While that looks like fun, and I LOVE the taste of Mustard so it could actually taste good, it led to THIS:

Hot Dog And Mustard Ice Cream Sandwiches!

Yes, Oscar-Meyer decided to go one better, and so last summer, to celebrate “National Ice Cream Sandwich Day”, the hot dog maker came up with this wacky sandwich!

The “Ice Dog” was made up of candied hot dog bits, hot dog sweet cream, spicy Dijon gelato and a cookie bun!

The company had a lot of fun that day on social media, at one point stating:

“Because a hot dog for dinner should be chased by a hot dog for dessert,” the company joked.

Well, you know me. I’d eat it! I’m open to all kinds of wacky tastes, and you know what? I’ve had mustard ice cream already!

You might be surprised to know that some of the world’s greatest Chefs do, indeed, create with Mustard Ice Cream!

This Butternut Squash Soup has Mustard Ice Cream in the middle! And it was delicious! The icy cold mouth feel allows the mustard flavor to slowly envelope your taste buds.

See how it’s made at San Francisco’s terrific Petit Crenn restaurant by clicking here:

  1. Hi John,
Here in Australia, we have a saying: “only in America”.
I’m not sure that mustard ice cream has made it Down Under. However, my husband’s cousin has produced a Wasabi cheese which has been commercially successful and is even shipped to Japan. We eat it regularly both on crackers, but it also goes well in mashed potato for a touch of Masterchef flair. Here’s a link to a newspaper story giving the history behind the creation of the cheese: https://www.theage.com.au/business/wasabi-cheese-mix-nothing-to-sneeze-at-20051021-ge13a9.html
We alos hope you and yours are staying well.
    Best wishes,
    Rowena

  5. Mustard ice cream! Now that’s something I’d never think to eat before… I guess I would try it, and it sounds like it might be nice with the squash, but I’m not sure I’d want it for dessert!

  7. A novel idea, John. It reminds me of the sardine ice cream one of the children asked for in Enid Blyton’s Folk of the Faraway tree book.
