Editing the Buttholes Out of ‘Cats’ Was a Total Nightmare! “What The Friday!?!?!” Is There a “Butthole Cut” Of “Cats?”

“Editing the Buttholes Out of ‘Cats’ Was a Total Nightmare for VFX Crew!”

What a headline for a story, and what a perfect “What The Friday?!?!?!”

In the history of Hollywood, a few films have gained lasting notoriety for being SO AWFUL, SO WRONG ON EVERY LEVEL that they become, in fact, camp ART.

“Showgirls”, anyone?

And such is the case of “Cats!”

When the film opened in December, the derision was so immediate that “Cats” became a punchline to describe any debacle…and now, their buttholes live on!

Is There A “Butthole Cut” Of Cats?”

The deliciousness of this lives on. For those like me, who MUST see this film now that it is streaming at home, tweets like the one above have given rise to a conspiracy theory:

“There IS A “Butthole” Cut Of The Film!

I found the terrific story at TheDailyBeast.com, which states:

Cats was already halfway complete when the buttholes first showed themselves, a source who worked on the film’s visual effects recalled in a recent interview: “When we were looking at the playbacks, we were like, ‘What the hell? You guys see that?!’”

“We paused it,” the source said. “We went to call our supervisor, and we’re like, ‘There’s a fucking asshole in there! There’s buttholes!’ It wasn’t prominent but you saw it… And you [were] just like, ‘What the hell is that?… There’s a fucking butthole in there.’ It wasn’t in your face—but at the same time, too, if you’re looking, you’ll see it.”

Wow!

James Corden and Rebel Wilson skewered the visual effects of the film at the Oscars, which wasn’t really fair when you consider how tough the job was – to turned Jennifer Hudson into THIS for example:

Oh my. According to the terrific Daily Beast story, the working conditions were horrendous as the Visual Artist struggled to satisfy a demanding Director who didn’t understand special effects…it’s a great story and you should read it in its entirety by going to the Daily Beast story here:

Strangely, after its box office bomb, the Alamo Drafthouse theater chain started running it at midnight – with drinks!

It was a huge hit – until this horrendous pandemic shut down movie theaters around the world. Still, i you want to know how Alamo took a box office bomb and turned it into catnip, ready my story here:

I hope you two had a lovely time watching a bad movie! The last bad movie I loved was ‘Earth Girls are Easy’.

  5. Cat buttholes… if you’ve ever had a cat, you’ve seen plenty of in-your-face cat butt in the early daylight hours, you would be unaffected.

  11. Yeah, I read this article. And it is a true symbol of what a trainwreck this adaptation was. Tom Hooper’s butthole was truly came across in this. 😉
