Update To The Nate n Al Story!
Here’s an important update to yesterday’s news out of the restaurant world in Beverly Hills – the legendary Nate ‘n Al restaurant, a fixture in the 90210 area code for more than 72 years, is closing!
Here is their original announcement yesterday:
After news broke, and many assumed the worst – the owners have released a statement saying they hope to re-open at some time….here is the statement:
“The media has incorrectly reported that Nate ‘N Al’s is “gone forever.” As we originally stated, we couldn’t fully guarantee the safety of both our customers and employees for take-out and delivery during this pandemic. We have chosen to cease that service. Our current lease is expiring shortly and we have encountered major difficulties with the city of Beverly Hills, who would have been our new landlord on Canon Drive. It is the intention of the current ownership to get through this crisis like every other restaurant and make the right decisions at the right time. Our goal is to keep the Nate N’ Al’s tradition alive.”
Let’s hope they can come back!
Nate’n Al opened in 1945 – run by Al Mendelson with his friend and business partner Nate Rimer. The restaurant is currently owned and operated by Al’s grandsons, Mark and David Mendelson.
This classic deli is a fixture on Beverly Drive in the heart of Beverly Hills.
The restaurant was saved by a group of Investors in the last year or so – but the coronavirus put an end to their plans to move it to a new location nearby, as their updated release makes clear.
Let’s hope that, once this pandemic is over, Nate ‘n Al will return SOMEWHERE, because its a classic deli, with terrific sandwiches, and everything else you want from a deli – one of the best places to hang out and grab a bite to eat in Beverly Hills.
My last time eating there, I had a cup of coffee in their classic mug, and then dug into Pastrami Eggs Benedict:
This is gutting to me – and I know there are so many restaurants struggling to survive in this time of uncertainty, so anything we can all do to help is vital to support classic Hollywood institutions, like Musso & Frank in Hollywood:
The restaurant just celebrated its 100th year in business – here’s a look at th history of this incredible restaurant:
