Grab A Coffin And Spend The Night!
I have a “Shocktober” edition of “What The Friday”, and it takes place at Dracula’s house – well, castle that is!
Yes, this is real!
A few years ago, someone was lucky enough to stay at Dracula’s Castle overnight!
In 2016, AirBnB had a Halloween contest, and here’s what was posted:
“I am Dacre Stoker, the great grandnephew of Bram Stoker, author of the legendary Dracula novel. I am a vampire expert and passionate advocate of my great grand-uncle’s novel. Bran Castle is where the legend of Dracula was born and I am thrilled to welcome and guide you through the dark passages of the castle for a private unveiling of its many mysteries.”
Oh, and in case you wondered what the Castle looked like:
The offer went on to add:
“A horse-drawn carriage carries you swiftly through Transylvania as the sun sets towards the horizon, heralding the hours of swooping bats and howling wolves. When you come around the final bend on the tree-lined road, you’ll catch a glimpse of Bran Castle. This misty mountain-top manor is home for the night. The chill that suddenly fills the carriage is not the evening mist, it’s a fear older than the forests now grown up around the castle rock. This is the lair of vampires, and you cannot leave until dawn.”
Oh, and this was offered up as your bed for the night:
For this year’s #31daysofhorror and #31daysofhalloween, I went to the castles official website to see if the offer was available again:
Sorry to say, but only daylight visits are happening this year! Still it looks gorgeous, and there is still a lot of cool stuff to see!
Here is a link to the castle’s official website:

I would definitely stay there, even if the house is evil. In fact, evil dwellings were part of my first “Shocktober” post:
Here are three films where the horror takes place inside a house:

Much more to come this month!

John, I get scared just looking at that placed in your post. Not on my bucket list. Only in my nightmares.
Best wishes,

Thanks for commenting! I think it would be a fascinating cattle to explore, even with a pretty evil former owner!

Yes, I’d love to explore it, day OR night…Eastern Europe has so much history that has still yet to be “upgraded” in a bad way…thanks for commenting!

Yes, just being in a country so steeped in history and folklore…especially at this time of year! I just watched a Hammer horror film from the early 70’s that was filmed in this area…

I love the sense of dread and history there…much cost a lot to heat!

Those old houses are hard to heat.. Rooms are generally heated individually.. That alone would give it some atmosphere.. Brrrrr

Indeed! You would want to sleep in the coffin just to stay warm!

That would certainly up the anti and the atmosphere….Spooky!
