Happy Anniversary, Alex!
Not going to bury my lead – it’s another year together and I can’t begin to tell you how happy that makes me.
This “Six Shot Saturday” is coming to you on a Thursday – because it’s my wedding anniversary, and if I can’t embarrass Alex today, then when can I?
It was a year ago that we celebrated with an incredible trip on “The Orient Express” – beginning with a greeting from the entire Venice-Simplon Orient Express team.
It was an amazing journey that saw us travel from Venice to Paris by way the the Italian countryside, Budapest and Hungary, Austria, a touch of Germany and Switzerland, and then beautiful French countryside…
No need to count: I am going to exert “Executive Privilege” and post more than “six shots”…there is too much to share, and since we had such an amazing time together, I wanted to give you as much of a taste of train life as I could in these photos…
All Aboard!
It all begins when you arrive: first, our Porter, Davide, greeted us and led us to our mini-suite:
It’s actually two cabins connected so we could sit facing either direction to see history roll by – here’s an example:
Among the many unique aspects of the train: the corridors that you walk with the windows on one side and the cabins on the other – polished to perfection:
The train’s bar car is also unique: a Pianist plays all day and night…I asked when they close and was told: “when the last guest goes to sleep!”
While it was nice and quiet in the daytime, here’s what it looked like at night!
Oh, Alex shared her experience wearing high heels with everyone on Instagram:
And How Did You Sleep?
Very well, actually…while you are at dinner, they transform your cabin into a bedroom!
We had such a great time – I’d recommend this to anyone who wants a magical “once in a lifetime” experience…and the Venice-Simplon Orient Express team saw all of our Instagram posts, because we made their site – see us in the upper left?
These pictures are literally just the “tip of the iceberg”, so here’s a bonus video: as we entered Budapest under “steam” power, I decided to film out the window:
After we arrived, we spent two night in Budapest – another great thing about taking the train – if you want more detail, here is the story I posted about life on the train:
And as incredible as the views were, the food onboard was even better!
Here’s a look at the incredible food served onboard:
If you enjoy these posts, why not subscribe and never miss out? It’s easy, and there are NO ads of any kind, just stuff I like…click on the main page and “follow” me on the upper right…
Leave a comment or questions about this incredible experience, and:
Happy Anniversary Alex!

How do you possibly top that anniversary celebration? Was it an extra-special milestone?
Gorgeous photos, one clarification… are those bunk beds? Or do they merge the two cabinsā beds into one larger one?

Thanks for the comment! They are bunk bed, but you can order them side by side not he floor instead…we decided it would be fun to do “bunks!” We did this trip last year – our 20th anniversary….this year? My wife is filming two episodes of “The Kelly Clarkson Show” today so our celebration will be this weekend!
