“Stefdies” In Corsica Fountain In La Course!
What a tragic accident – oh wait, it’s not – it’s ART!
It’s another “What The Friday” look at the wild and wacky internet, this time an incredible and hilarious bit of “artistic anarchy” from .Artist Stephanie Leigh Rose!
#Stefdies At The San Diego Petting Zoo!
How funny is this picture! It’s all part of an ongoing parody of the world’s obsession with “Selfies” – as Stephanie Leigh Rose creates “#selfdies” instead!
As Stepahnie told Bored Panda:
“My long hair (and swimsuit in selected photos) would allude to the fact I am a female, but outside of a viewer coming to one of my gallery shows and meeting me personally, I prefer to keep STEFDIES neutral and free of age, nationality, politic, socioeconomic status. STEFDIES is a character of its own, and I invite people to connect with that, and interpret the scenes as they wish. Part of the joy and humor of STEFDIES, is no-one knows exactly what the hell is going on, and that’s pretty much a direct reflection of real life in general.”

#Stefdies At Lake Como!
Here she is, creating her “art” at the famous Brunate Lighthouse at Lake Como in Italy.
As “Boredpanda.com” goes on to report:
A STEFDIES photo is a moment in time. There is no preparation; Stephanie doesn’t set anything up or use props, the images are as real as it gets. “All STEFDIES images occur spontaneously in my daily life,” the artist said. “The images the viewer happens to see are the 25% of images that are useable. This is why a STEFDIES image is the opposite of a selfie. A selfie has controlled conditions, specific lighting, makeup/hair/wardrobe, an agenda, and is focused on the individual personality- it is a contrived and manipulated image distorted to achieve a desired result. STEFDIES is the polar opposite- I get one chance to get the shot, if it doesn’t happen, c’est la vie. We have one life to live, and we don’t get re-do’s- and i would like to think i try to capture that feeling, that fleeting sense of life and its impermanence, in my photos.”
I love these so much…you will recognize these next two iconic locations:
The Eiffel Tower and The Golden Gate Bridge have NEVER been captured quite this way!
This artistic endeavor, catching fire on social media, reminds me of another “cheeky” bit of internet “art”:
Yes, #cheekyexploits is the hashtag used by men and women as they pose nude, their backs always to camera, as a “natural” way to explore nature…
I posted that story, and the reaction from local law enforcement, here – check it out to find out what happened:
As for Artist Stephanie Leigh Rose, bravo for these incredible images, like her “#stefdies” selfie at the Paris marathon!
Bored Panda, as always, has the whole story, with dozens of additional shots – you can see them here!
Let me know if you plan to take part in any of these new social media sensations!

okay – this is funny John.. Thanks for throwing some light on someone making fun light of this often troubling form of self expression.

I agree, I posted a story more than a year ago of the people taking selfies in front of the Mona Lisa…not sure they even bothered to look at the painting!

Love the one in the fountain…As Robbie said it is a form of storytelling a little weird but I quite like it…

Thanks for the comment! I really feel she is taking on the “selfie generation”, which is so self-obsessed that they don’t see the beauty of the world around them any longer

Yes, they are rather caught up in the moment 🙂

I love this selfie push back series; thanks for the smile this morning. When we were on vacation back in March there was a woman in the pool taking selfies and I watched her for a bit and it really was an exhausting process she was going through that last 30-40 minutes! It seemed like she was missing out on being in the moment because she was so focus on getting these selfies… Anyway, great coffee share. Love the statement in these photo’s.

I saw hundreds of people at The Louvre taking selfies of themselves in front of the the Mona Lisa – not sure if they were even looking at the painting itself!

I don’t know about theses, It’s a little like the boy who cried wolf. What if most people stopped caring, and the people who actually need help from time to time would not get help?

Completely understand that POV, but I think the Artist is making a statement about how self-obsessed the world of “selfies” has made us all, so she might be making that exact same statement that you are!

How innovative and interesting, John.

A bit dark to be sure but it is art after all!

Definitely.

No darker than a lot of novels, think Dracula, Frankenstein and Stephen King.

Exactly Robbie – this is a form of storytelling to be sure, and again, a statement on the “selfie generation” that is more interested in how they look in front of something than in admiring the “something” itself!

Gosh. I see people like this on the streets of New York all the time (!) But, seriously, folks, I have a very dark sense of humor. I absolutely love this!

Wow, wonder if people would pay to take photos of me lying on the floor pretending to be dead! As Pete says it’s strange how people are just ignoring her. She might have needed an ambulance… crazy!

I can only imagine it’s a bit obvious to the people watching it being filmed, but who knows? That could be part of the “Statement” being made – thanks for the comment!

A long time ago I did A level psychology, we did a project on bystander intervention where a member of the group had to fall over. One lady had a crowd helping her, concerned and telling her to go to A and E. However another group member actually had people stepping over her lying there. People are interesting!

WOW! Thanks for sharing that, I have to assume everyone there saw this photo being set up, but I can’t believe people wouldn’t help someone who fell!

Yes neither could we! I could not imagine actually stepping over someone! Yes I would guess those around know she’s fine, hopefully..

Oh yes, it’s quite a statement I think on what we’ve become due to the selfie trend…I saw the Mona Lisa in Paris and more people were taking pics of themselves instead of looking at the painting!

She may even start a new trend!

I hope so Colline, it’s so unique! Dark to be sure, but there has been a “selfie” blowback as people do nothing but take pictures of themselves!

Interesting how so many of the ‘bystanders are taking no notice of the ‘dead’ girl at all, John. 🙂
Best wishes, Pete.
