“What The Friday?!?!” Hong Kong’s Shockingly Small Microscopic “Nano Apartments”! These Apartments Are Smaller Than A Parking Space!

Yes, time for a very cramped “What The Friday”! It’s no joke – these “nano” apartments for sale in Hong Kong are incredibly small – how small you ask? Well, look at this!

WTF! Apartments Smaller Than A Parking Space!

That’s right: a Hong Kong Developer had apartments for sale that, when measured, turned out to be smaller than the size of a Hong Kong parking space!

I got this story from SoraNews24, which does a phenomenal job of covering all things Asia. As they report:

“One real estate developer designed even smaller for-sale condominium units, called the T-Plus. Measuring 128 square feet and priced at 2.85 million Hong Kong dollars (roughly $385,000 US dollars), the student hostel-inspired units each would have a kitchen, space for storage, and toilet, and come furnished with a refrigerator, bed and dining table.”

“Student Hostel – Inspired!”

Can you believe a cramped hostel was the inspiration for this?

The article points out that the developer had 73 “micro” flats located in Hong Kong’s Tuen Mun district in December for sale, “but their tiny dimensions failed to attract buyers. Only two of the nano condos were sold, which caused the sales launch to close early.”

Yes, they stopped the sales effort due to the lack of interest. I can understand that space is at a premium in Hong Kong, but I think they really misread the current market for sleeping in a coffin-sized space!

As you can see, showcasing a nice looking building is one thing: packed in like sardines is something else completely!

Thanks to Soranews24.com as always for the story – click their story here to see more pictures and social media commentary from Hong Kong:

I am fascinated with how people live – and I understand that land is at a premium in many parts of the world – after all, look at Hong Kong’s skyline!

It’s a beautiful city at night, but the picture reminded me of one I shared a while ago: a Tokyo apartment building that was, shall we say, on a diet?

Yes, this apartment building doesn’t give you much room to move either! In fact, I shared some of the skinniest houses in the world, and you can see more of them here:

There you go: a “WTF What The Friday” look at living “NANO!”

  1. My goodness, that is small and tight, John. I don’t think I could bear it but it looks like the people in Hong Kong can’t either.

  2. I’m all about minimalism and have done two years in my RV, traveling cross country, but this NANO thing is just a little overboard. I wouldn’t want to do that. I think a small house is rather appealing, as long as you have a lot of outdoor space. ..but NANO no! Thanks for a very intersting post. Have a fantastic weekend!

  3. I almost hate to say it, but I’m glad the buying public drew the line with these sardine cans. As a hostel, the idea sorta works. but I’m glad few were willing to pay such sums to own one. Cool find John.

  4. $385,000 is such a crazy price, to live in a tiny box. I wonder how an ordinary Chinese person can afford such exorbitant prices. Rather them than me! 🙂
    Best wishes, Pete.

  5. And all for a mere $385,000! You get a little more space for your money in Seattle but not much! 😉
