“WTF-Friday!?!?!?!”
Here’s a handful of fun to end your week!
I’m starting a new weekly segment called WTF-Friday – “What The Friday!” Each week I will share something that will make you shake your head in disbelief – but you can believe it because I found it on the internet, so it’s all true, right?
And what better way to say “WTF-Friday” than with this:
Ketchup Caviar!
Well, all I can say is “well played, Heinz, well played.”
Yes, the venerable Ketchup maker has a new way to impress your significant other on Valentine’s Day – with Ketchup Caviar!
I found this article on the great “This Is Insider” website, who describes the product as such:
Each jar of Heinz’s Ketchup Caviar will have “pearls” of ketchup that possess the same taste we’re used to but in a whole new (exotic!) form.
Here’s the catch, though; you have to tweet @HeinzKetchup_US starting at 6am E.T. January 24 (through January 28th) for a chance to score one of the 150 jars that has been made for the occasion. So set your alarms *very* early, folks. Even if the caviar tastes totally gross IRL, at the very least, it’ll make those Valentine’s Instagrams so much more interesting.
Thanks for the heads up! Time to get your bid in!
Thanks to “Thisisinsider.com” for this story – a really fun website!
I’ve covered some “WTF” stories related to ketchup before – remember this ketchup leather?
Yes, there is a restaurant in Los Angeles that serves their burgers with a chewy ketchup leather that is not only unique but delicious as well – you can see it here:
And for those of you who wonder “WTF” could show up every week, well it could be food – like this “Cheeseburger In A Can”:
Or perhaps I will share more of these “finds”: hiking trails in China that look like this:
Of course, I don’t want to tease you too much, so if you want to see this wild wild hiking trail around the side of a mountain, you can click here for the story now:
Or perhaps it will be a trip to the exotic getaway where planes land like this – so you can run your hand along the undercarriage as they go by:
It will be anything that seems interesting to me, and you can decide for yourself – beginning with “Ketchup Caviar!”

Wow, John. I’m always one to fall head over heels for a gimmick. I’m in marketing. Looks fantastic but I’m not a huge lover of ketchup , or what we Australians call “tomato sauce”. However, I think it would look very stylish on top of your gourmet meat pie, added that magic touch. BTW why haven’t they made Vegemite caviar? What a product! it’s the Australia Day Weekend over here where all things disgustingly Australian are out in full force.
Best wishes,
Rowena

Thanks for the comment! I was lucky enough to travel to Australia for work – I have posted about that – and loved it! Vegemite is an acquired taste but I brought back several tubes of it because I embrace everything!

You’re a trooper being an American embracing Vegemite.
I lived in Heidelberg, Germany when I was 22 and backpacking through Europe. A friend of mine had some Vegemite in a little round orange Tupperware container. The type you store snacks in. I’d never thought of this being Australian. However, if you can’t smell it, the stuff looks like chocolate sauce and being in this unsuspecting Tupperware container, it flew right under the radar. A kid ate a teaspoon of the stuff and as much as he hated it, he pranked his sister who dipped her chocolate chip cookie in the stuff. You should’ve seen their faces! One of the bests pranks ever!

Or maybe – Ketchup flavored pop-rocks, as long as we’re trying to reform a gastronomic reputation. Neat find john.

I just think of the ketchup exploding in your mouth when you bite down on one of the ‘eggs’ and that makes me nauseous. Very wtf.

Exactly. Little mini- gelatin capsules of ketchup – you really have to be “onboard” with that!

I think the pearls of ketchup are a good idea! Most pictures of hamburger look gross to me. However, today’s picture made my stomach growl.

I think they could be fun to use on all types of things – almost a waste to use them on a burger! Thanks as always for your comment!

Those pearls of ketchup sure are pretty! But I’ll just say no to ketchup leather!
