Todd’s New Memoir Is Here!
The reasons to vote Todd into the Rock’n’Roll Hall Of Fame keep piling up: not only did he release a GREAT new album this year, but he is releasing his autobiography as well!
If you know anything about Todd, there are going to be some revealing stories to share! I also have his 2019 tour dates, just shared on RundgrenRadio.com!
Here is the official press release about the book:
As always, Todd IS an “Individualist” and has a unique way to promote his memoir.
As a great new article in Billboard reports:
Rundgren is planning a hybrid concert-book signing tour that gets underway April 1 in Duisburg, Germany and will play 15 cities around the world, combining shows with book events and also offering a deep dig into Rundgren’s catalog from the first 40 years of his recording career, which is the period detailed in the memoir. “I’m still sculling out exactly what it’ll be,” Rundgren, who turned 70 in July, tells Billboard. “I’m trying to create something that’s somewhat theatrical in the sense there’ll probably be a lot of video in the show and most of the material will certainly be familiar to my devoted fan base. But it’ll pretty much be ending up at around the late ’90s.”
Here is how Billboard explains Todd’s memoir:
The Individualist memoir, meanwhile, is a revealing 238-page book, including photos, in which each chapter is one page long, dealing with a specific topic. Each chapter is divided into three paragraphs — one that lays out the events at hand, another that chronicles Rundgren’s “emotional response” to them and a third that details “the intellectual conclusions that I came to.” “It makes it possible to read it in a number of different ways,” Rundgren explains. “If there’s some aspect of it that doesn’t appeal to you, you can still read the book — just don’t read the middle paragraph or whatever.”
While Todd tells many personal stories about his life, including the real story about raising Liv Tyler as his own daughter, he also didn’t want to use the book to “sell” his fans or the public something that wasn’t honest and real. As he told Billboard:
“There wasn’t an agenda on my part to create an image of myself using the book. I was trying to be interesting and revelatory and pithy, and that’s along the lines of what I would want to read.”
You can read more of the article here – and bravo to Billboard for continuing to give Todd great press coverage!

Todd just keeps making great music – in fact, here are five musical reasons to vote Todd into the Hall:
Let’s all step up and vote Todd in – and buy his memoir!
Categories: 70's Music, Art, Books / Media, Classic Rock, Memoirs, Music, Obscure Music, Pop Culture, Talent/Celebrities, Todd Rundgren
Has anyone else noticed that the format of “The Individualist” book is similar to the way No World Order was organized. . . allowing the reader to travel through the book horizontally, vertically or diagonally, mixing and matching along the way. It’s a book, and it’s a multimedia experience! NOW how much would you pay??!?

I love memoirs with photos, always helps to bring things to life that bit more. And what an interesting way to lay out the chapters in those three sections! Didn’t know he was doing a book, or a tour for that matter, but thanks to you I’ve ‘seen the light’ 😉
Great post! x
