I thought this was a good film, but Nicholson can almost never resist a completely over the top performance, whenever he has the chance. I like him better in his ‘quieter’ films, like ‘As Good As It Gets’.

Pete, he is amazing in “About Schmidt”, underplaying to perfection. That said, THIS is the OTT Jack I love!

I liked About Schmidt a lot. He reminds me of Pacino in many ways though. Sensitive and nuanced performances blown away by over-the-top histrionics.

Absolutely, and films like “The Departed” allowed him to chew scenery – and Pacino in any number of later films like “Devil’s Advocate” were the same…
