  1. I see parallels with Ceausescu’s Romania here. An impoverished country ruled by a dynastic system, the cult of personality, and a flagship capital city trying to show a face of prosperity to the outside world. Romania improved its lot by killing that family, and being accepted into the EU. Many of its citizens then left their country to work elsewhere, and just as many became international gangsters, criminals, people traffickers, and pickpockets and petty thieves, in cities like London. We have to be careful what we wish for.

    Of course, Romania didn’t have missiles pointed at other countries. Not their own missiles, at least.
