More Tokyo Nights With Alex Sim-Wise!
Welcome back to Tokyo’s nightlife, where there is always lots of neon, fun, adventure, and of course Alex Sim-Wise, who is growling at me for reasons I no longer remember!
Alex Sim-Wise filmed many stories when we were in Tokyo – it was Alex’s first time there, and she was up for anything, as you have seen in previous posts…just search Alex Sim-Wise to see those stories, like the day she dressed up as a maid to serve diners in a cosplay cafe…
Corrado was producing the segment, and Kristen was our expert Production Manager…and I got a shot of all of us “at arm’s length”…
I have no idea what Corrado was doing, but since it’s Tokyo, who cares? Being in Tokyo was a non-stop adventure, like the night Sim-Wise donned a blue wig and a schoolgirl outfit – and we weren’t even filming!
As it turns out, she was just off for a Tokyo adventure with her good friend Rachel Irving, who joined us on some of the shoots and was a great person to have on the team!
Alex and Rachel!
As you can see, you cannot NOT have fun in Tokyo! Most of our filming was at night, centered around the entertainment districts of Tokyo, such as the Golden Gai districts of mini-bars. You can find that story separately as well…Alex got behind the bar with Rachel and learned to make drinks…
Alex The Artist!
As part of the story, Alex also drew her own self-portrait – something that all anime artists do when they frequent this bar – and which now hangs on the wall of the bar!
Again, go to the main page and search Alex Sim-Wise for lots of great Tokyo adventures…or use this link:
Alex Sim-Wise In Japan!
As I said, we filmed all over Tokyo, such as this night in Kabuki-Cho, the party zone that is in the Shinjuku district. It is full of neon, bars and lots of people…
We were filming on the streets of Kabuki-Cho – something they usually do NOT allow, but our terrific Tokyo Producer Nick Uemura made arrangements to get permission to film – and it gave Alex the chance to wander the streets and find interesting people…
While we were filming, I captured a bit of the behind-the-scenes activity, and caught the attention of my great Producer Corrado Caretto, leading to this standoff:
As you can see, Alex always knew how to have fun with the camera and interact with us, no matter what we were up to – and, if you watch that clip again, you can catch a glimpse of Executive Proudcer Vinny Rutherford at the end – a bit of “Blair Witch” corner standing!
One of the great things about the city is that it is literally flooded with images – neon lights, unique signs, and of course, ads like THIS:
Yes, even the elderly Japanese like to don fashionable sunglasses! Or what about this ad for a TV show – I guess it’s some sort of medical drama – their “animal house” version of “General Hospital”…
Harajuku Shopping District!
This is the entrance to the main shopping area of the Harajuku district – full of unique shops and boutiques – and always packed with young women, shopping for the latest fashion…
And as I said, it is the most colorful place on earth – just look at the signs….
It only rained once while we were there, but we didn’t let it slow us down…
And, whenever there was a break in shooting, we’d explore the unique aspect of Tokyo street life, like the fact that there are vending machines EVERYWHERE…
And, as you can see, Corrado just LOVED the coffee vending machines…
If you want to see some of craziest food you can buy in Tokyo, check out this post:
So, you can see we had a great time on our visit, filming lots of unique stories and having a great time as a team in doing so…thanks again to Nick, Kristen, Corrado, Vinny and of course Alex and Rachel, who provided lots of non-stop energy!
No matter how busy we were, the entire team hustled, got the stories we need to get, and had fun doing it:
And no one had more fun than Alex and Rachel!
Alex Sim-Wise & Tokyo’s Sex Shops!
Still to come: I have the inside story of Alex Sim-Wise’s crazy adventure when she explores the underbelly of Tokyo’s shopping scene: the six-story sex shop! Look for that soon!
