Here’s My 2025 Christmas Tree!
The lights are on and soon it will be decorated with some really fun ornaments I can’t wait to show you!
First: this 7 foot Fraser Fir (Abies fraseri) is a popular, fragrant evergreen tree native to the Appalachian Mountains, famous as America’s top Christmas tree for its symmetry, strong branches, excellent needle retention, and pleasant woody scent. While endangered in the wild, it’s widely grown on farms, known for its blue-green needles with silver undersides.
But where do you get one in the middle of New York City? Easy – the sidewalk!

Yep, these sidewalk stores sell them right off the street! This one is on Broadway at 62nd – let’s take a look!

Talk about convenient! I picked out my Fraser Fir – $140 – and carried it two blocks to our apartment, then Alex took over and started dressing it up:

First, Alex added the lights, then some small furry balls on a string – and now, it was time to add our ornaments! Let’s check out some that made the tree this year, starting with this new gem from our friend Yvette!

Yes, it’s a Martini! I love this, and here’s how it looked on the tree, along with a tour of some of the others, including a rodent!

From a Martini to a “pizza-hugging Rodent, my tree is shaping up nicely!

I just love this….let’s take a closer look:
Of course, those who have followed along for the past few years know that I am a bit OBSESSED with holiday ornaments:

Oh yes, from hamburgers to fried eggs, PB&J’s and more, I love my food ornaments….here’s a quick tour:

The month of December is a busy one for everyone celebrating – whatever their faith. For me, I have to start planning my Christmas feast, which traditionally is this incredible dish thanks to Patricia Wells:

This is a Gigot D’Agneau – a leg of lamb roasted in the oven over sliced onion, potato and tomato!
Here’s the recipe plus some wild side dishes too!
After a great meal, time to settle in for a holiday movie – here are some of my favorites:
So much more of the season to go – buckle up!

Thank you for a glorious laugh – can’t wait to see more of your ornaments > that rat nibbling on the pizza takes the cake! And lamb for the Yuletide feast would be so, so, so ‘me’ !!! Way back in Europe ours would be goose or duck, black pudding and blood pancakes and superfine consommé with piroshki 🙂 !

Your quirky tree ornaments are legendary, John! We use a fake tree, pre-lit. We have had the same one for 13 years now, so it has outlived its potential ‘carbon footprint’. I leave tree decorating to Julie, as she likes her special sentimental ornaments to be placed ‘just so’ among the coloured baubles.
Best wishes, Pete.
