A Powerful “Death By Lightning!”
A new Netflix mini-series tells the fascinating dating story of a US President, and here’s is the reason for the title:
“Assassination can no more be guarded against than death by lightning; it is best not to worry about either.” – President James Garfield
Get ready for a GREAT story to be told!

“Death by Lightning” is a four episode limited series starring Michael Shannon, Matthew Macfadyen, Nick Offerman, Betty Gilpin, Bradley Whitford and Shea Whigham – airing on Netflix.

The show brings to life the epic and stranger-than-fiction true story of James Garfield, reluctant 20th president of the United States, and his greatest admirer Charles Guiteau.
Here is the trailer:
As the Netflix teaser explains, President Garfield’s admirer Charles Guiteau is who they call “the man who would come to kill him.”
BUT…that’s not exactly true!
I know that because I read the true story: and you should too because this book is amazing!

“Destiny Of The Republic!”
THIS is the full, true story of what happened to President James Garfield – because his Assassin Guiteau did indeed shoot the President but didn’t technically kill him: the White House Doctors did!
See more about the fascinating book here, including how Alexander Graham Bell could have saved the President – it’s an incredibly powerful read!
Kudos, Candice!
“Destiny Of The Republic” is a nonfiction thriller with twists you can’t see coming – and all the more amazing because it’s true! With all of the political chaos going on today, it’s sobering to see that previous Presidents, like James Garfield, were also undermined by opponents just as devious…some things never change…

This is a great book, I cannot recommend it more highly.
As a student of American politics, I was interested in some of the lesser-known stories about our Presidential history…like this “Horndog!”
Did you know that President John Tyler was one of the White House’s most notorious womanizers? You wouldn’t think it by looking at him, but oh, the stories!

Sounds like a good series. And I loved Candace Millard’s book!

It’s terrific – but they are selling it as the story of Garfield’s Assassin, which is a bit of a stretch as he didn’t kill the President – but I get why they are doing it that way….really well acted and captures that time terrifically!

My family seem to access their Netflix on my TV, play with my Virgin fire stick or whatever it’s called, while I can only manage BBC iPlayer!

Good cast, and an interesting historical event. Shame I don’t have Netflix.
Best wishes, Pete.

Pete, the book is terrific too…and Netflix is selling it as the story of the President’s Assassin, but the book makes clear: he wouldn’t have died had it not been for the incompetence of the White House Doctors…I’m curious to see if they delve into that as much sin the TV series,

I know, it’s so annoying to keep seeing good things to watch on anything but terrestrial TV.

What with Apple TV, Apple TV+, Netflix, Discovery Plus, and others, I would end up paying out too much every month just to watch a few drama shows and an occasional film. I can’t justify the expense, Janet.
