The Future Is Picking You Up!
Have you seen the car of the future? With the “twirly” top? It’s eye-catching to be sure!
Oh, and let’s peek inside the driver’s seat:

That’s right: there isn’t a driver inside! It’s the cab of the future and it’s coming your way!
Check this video out! Watch the “twirly” top as this driverless Cab cruises down Santa Monica Boulevard in West Hollywood California:

Say Hello To The “Waymo!”
The future is here in West Hollywood and all of Los Angles, as well as San Francisco, Phoenix, Austin Texas – with Atlanta and Miami rolling out and more cities to come! This is “autonomous” driving – no driver inside!
Here’s another look at these driverless cabs on the road in West Hollywood:

No driver, no problem! I was very surprised to see dozens of the Waymo’s on crowded streets and small roads – they go everywhere!
The pure “driverless taxi” is now twirling around many cities in the US!

Behold “The World’s Most Experienced Driver!”
That’s how Waymo describes themselves.
“We’re on a mission to be the world’s most trusted driver. Making it safer, more accessible, and more sustainable to get around — without the need for anyone in the driver’s seat.”
One more shot of the Waymo in action, expertly handling traffic, lights and turns…
I love that autonomous driving is here! Would you take one? Every single person I know who has ridden in one loved it: it’s easy to order off an app, the car pulls up and lets you in, takes you to your final destination and let’s you exit…no one to talk to, no one to tip!
There haven’t been any major issues, and the rollout followed months and months of tests and data…so let’s twirl!

The “Waymo” autonomous driving car is pretty cool to look at – at this point they are not for sale to the public – they are just being used as cabs. Here is one waiting patiently to make a left turn in traffic:
It is impressive how well these cars are doing in heavier traffic as well.
Autonomous driving hasn’t gone smoothly for all robotic cars:

A “Zoox” Issue!
I hadn’t heard of these cars, but they are kind of cool looking…oh, and they were in the news!
As reported on CNBC.com a few days ago:
Amazon’s Zoox issued a software recall for 270 of its robotaxis after a crash in Las Vegas last month, the company said Tuesday.
The recall surrounds a defect with the vehicle’s automated driving system that could cause it to inaccurately predict the movement of another car, increasing “the risk of a crash,” according to a report submitted to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration on May 1.
Zoox submitted the recall after an April 8 incident in Las Vegas in which an unoccupied Zoox robotaxi collided with a passenger vehicle, the NHTSA report states. There were no injuries in the crash and only minor damage occurred to both vehicles.
“After analysis and rigorous testing, Zoox identified the root cause,” the company said in a blog post. “We issued a software update that was implemented across all Zoox vehicles. All Zoox vehicles on the road today, including our purpose-built robotaxi and test fleet, have the updated software.”
Zoox paused all driverless vehicle operations while it reviewed the incident. It has since resumed operations after rolling out the software update.
I’m sure Zoox will work it all out – and for all of us, time to get ready for an “all robotic” future!
AI-generated Robotics are everywhere:

Have you met “Coco?” It’s an automated delivery
For those who don’t know, the rest of the world has been using Robots for years – in some cases to liver the news:

Did you know they have “Robot Anchors” delivering the news in Japan?
See the wild story here:
And during the pandemic, someone realized this was needed as well:

“Robotic Love!” Here’s a robot designed for one purpose: to cheer you up!
See the story here:
And of course, robots are being used in many restaurants as well:

Like cheeseburgers!

I rode in a Waymo last spring in Phoenix! Our friend ordered the car for our group, and it was equal parts cool and terrifying, even in a non-busy area / time of day. It did have to go around a double-parked car on a tight street, which was a scary test. The ride itself was fun and exciting!

Lordie – I never allow ‘my age’ to enter my current life, but this somehow is a ‘a fairy tale’ to me I prefer to read but not to enter at the moment 🙂 !

Not having to tip is a bonus, but you also lose local knowledge. And I can’t help thinking that it is an accident waiting to happen at some stage.
Best wishes, Pete.

Pete, there will always be problems, but it seems this is the future here…but dont see how it could ever work in New York where crossing the street in crowded traffic is a sport
