Check Out This Wild Five Story Slide – Inside A Shopping Mall!
Why do I love to travel? It’s because it’s filled with wonder – both natural and manufactured…and it takes a real creative mind to come up with this:
A “Five Story” Shopping Mall Slide!
No need to take an escalator: this tube slide will get you to the ground floor in seconds!
In 2016, The “Happy New World Happy Slide” opened in the Printemps Mall in Pudong, Shanghai. It’s five stories high, and was built inside the mall to bring in crowds!
Welcome To Shanghai!
Almost 25-million people live in Shanghai, and they need to be entertained!
Well, this will do it – shop for a bit, and when you get to the top of the mall, just slide back down to the bottom!

The dragon-shaped slide is the mall’s centerpiece and acts as a more “interactive escalator!”
So, how fast is this? Well, it takes about 16 seconds to go from the top of the slide to the bottom. Oh, and don’t worry about slide burns – you sit on a burlap bag!

Ready For A Ride?
Of course you are, so here’s what you want to see – a trip down!
Here’s a video that was shared when the slide first opened:
I would do this in a heartbeat – in fact, I am building a long long list of amazing travel adventures to do in China!
Like This Tsunami Water Park!
Yes, it’s a water park with a wave pool so strong that it literally swamps the swimmers!

Speaking of dangerous adventures in China, I also want to see this glass bridge – you know, the one that cracked!
Well, I’d still walk across it, and I you click here you can see how and why it cracked!
I am so fascinated by this country that I made it the “C” in my “Travel A – Z” series…see everything I discovered here!

Cool idea! The biggest mall I’ve been to is The Mall of America in Bloomington, Minnesota. The mall is located where the Metropolitan Stadium used to be, the former home of the Minnesota Twins. There is even a replica of home plate inside the mall.

I went to the Mall of America once for the opening of the Planet Hollywood restaurant there…we made a TV special out of it…I walked from my hotel across the street to the mall…it was ONE DEGREE outside.

Where was this when the malls were in their heyday. I would’ve loved this in the 80s!!!

Yes, add this to the mall from “Fast Times At Ridgmont High” and it would have taken the film to a whole different level!

Whoo! I just ‘went’ on your mall ride, courtesy of the video, and now am quite dizzy sitting in my bed drinking my morning coffee! Yes, good fun methinks I would love to try – cannot see much that could go wrong . . . ? Am just thinking – Shanghai, which I have always wanted to visit, has as many inhabitants as the whole of Australia give or take a couple of million. . . . cannot imagine 🙂 !

The department store slide I would just have to do! And the Wall slide as well. I’m sure both would be very exciting but I will leave the water one. What fun!!

It would at least be unique to see it in the middle of a mall! Thanks for the comment!

Yes I would have a go and on Pete’s ride. I just don’t like heights with empty space. I would never do a bungee jump!

I’m very torn about a bungee jump…I sent the Actress Molly Shannon to Victoria Falls when I had a show called “Celebrity Adventures”, and while she didn’t do it, her then-fiancee and my show Host bungee’d off the Falls bridge and it looked incredible!

Sign me up for that ride! It looks pretty safe, and I wouldn’t be able to resist it. You have to do the Great Wall one too, on your own sled! I did this when I went to Beijing.
Best wishes, Pete.

The sled has a brake lever to use to slow you down if you want to, and the ride felt really safe. The only downside was that the brake lever was heavily oiled, and I got the oil all over my expensive camera bag which was between my legs. But it was cheap to ride, and great fun!
