These Park Avenue Statues Are “Stalled Mid-Step!” It’s Stunning Half-Art With Baggage!

Welcome To Park Avenue!

It is arguably New York’s poshest address, and guess what? Manhattan’s Park Avenue also happens to be where you can see some of the most original art in the world! Let’s give you a closer look:

Yes, what you are seeing are statues that aren’t all there! It’s a fascinating exhibit that lines many blocks of Park Avenue until the end of May!

As the terrific Time Out New York explained in their coverage:

Each sculpture depicts a person who looks like they’re stalled mid-step, perhaps caught between the past and the present. Their bodies are broken apart at the torso, evoking the scars, complex identities, shadowy areas of each person’s self-image. Though the sculptures are depicted in motion, we don’t know where they started and where they’re going. Each one—like all of us—carries their baggage with them.

See the feet, then the leg on the right…follow it until it disappears and you see the tree behind! It’s incredibly well done and stops everyone in their tracks! Check this out!

This outdoor exhibition is called “Travelers”, a series of figurative sculptures by renowned artist Bruno Catalano, and they are fascinating!

I love this one, where it appears he has partially disappeared into the building! Here’s more video:

The Time Out article also says this:

“In his work, people from the ordinary world take on a heroic stature. Their monumental scale pays homage to these universal experiences of travel, flight, and exile,” Jon Harari, co-chairman of Patrons of Park Avenue wrote in a post announcing the series. “These individuals carry pieces of life and history in their luggage. Their future is inextricably linked to their roots, keeping them in a precarious balance.”

Bravo to Artist Bruce Catalano! As I said, these statues have been along this stretch of Park Avenue for several months and will be here until the end of May.

You can see the Park Avenue sign and the E. 36th street sign as well…these statues begin about 4 blocks south of New York’s unique Grand Central Terminal, the massive and ornate train station in midtown…it’s a work of art inside as well:

Not only is Grand Central Station worth a visit for its incredible ceiling, but it’s packed with shops and restaurants as well – and Jackie O saved it from destruction!

See that story here:

And speaking of restaurants, when you visit you MUST grab some fresh Oysters at the iconic Grand Central Oyster Bar:

The restaurant is also an architectural marvel – and the food is great!

Speaking of architecture, what about this latest trend in New York: the “skinny-scraper!

New technology has allowed these skinny skyscrapers to flourish – find out how here:

  6. Well, you have given me more ‘homework’ because I knew absolutely nought about these rather fascinating sculptures on Park Avenue! And I must be the biggest scaredy-cat in the world because I don’t think I would like to be on one of the top floors of those ‘skinny’ skyscrapers . . . planes flying low in bad weather . . . OK, OK – wild imagination 🙂 !
