“Hey Coco, Where’s My Food?”
Meet Coco. Coco wants to bring you a nice hot meal. All you do is order and open!
Here in Los Angeles, I have been run across Coco-bots, speeding along the sidewalk filled with food! Here’s how they work:
I found out online that Remote drivers actually pilot the Coco delivery robots using Xbox controllers.vThese drivers are trained employees who use cameras to navigate the robots through city streets.

When you order a delivery, a coco-bot races to the restaurant, the food is put inside, and coco is on the way…in fact, I shot this video of one on a street in West Los Angeles.
I found it interesting for two reasons: one, it seems fine when there aren’t a lot of people on the sidewalk, but on a busy afternoon will these “coco bots” go into the street or just run into us? Second, what exactly is that strange red blob on the ground? Not sure I want an answer to that one.
On a related note: do you “Waymo?”

Here in Los Angeles, as well as San Francisco and a few other cities in the US, we now have “robot taxis” being used, and they are still fascinating to see on the road: there is a passenger sitting in the back of the car – and NO ONE up front!

Here’s how the company describes themselves:
“Since our start as the Google Self-Driving Car Project in 2009, Waymo has been focused on building the Waymo Driver—The World’s Most Experienced DriverTM—to improve everyone’s access to mobility while saving thousands of lives now lost to traffic crashes.“
The Robotic future is truly here!
For those who don’t know, the rest of the world has been using Robots for years:

Did you know they have “Robot Anchors” delivering the news in Japan?
See the wild story here:
And during the pandemic, someone realized this was needed as well:

“Robotic Love!” Here’s a robot designed for one purpose: to cheer you up!
See the story here:
And of course, robots are being used in many restaurants as well:

Like cheeseburgers!

I love Lovot, the loneliness robot. I think schools could benefit from them. A kid feeling down can go to the principal’s office and get some hugs.

we’ve had some robot deliveries, but I only see them in the summer which is understandable with our weather. also had a robot waiter who assisted the human waiter at a local restaurant here. more like a busser, delivering food and taking away dirty dishes to free up the waiter. we also have a couple of test market robo vehicles that take people places for free. lots of robots in action

Of course, you realize that the Jetson’s theme song (the fast paced track of music) is now running through my head and will be for the rest of the day!!! The driverless cars are interesting. I think it might be tough to make the finances work, but long term who knows? We’re all just visitors in George Jetson’s world. Ha, ha.

Does nobody steal the food the delivery bots are carrying? I don’t think I’d like to get in a car where there’s no driver!

I think they hav codes to protect from that and as for the driverless car, people who have done it love it but I’m not sure it advances our culture at all!

As far as cities and towns in England are concerned, I foresee a huge problem with the small food delivery robots. Mainly, ‘midless vandalism’, where certain youths would think it funny to kick them over and stop them delivering to the customer. The secondary issue is theft of the food, but I am not sure if the box contents are secured by a code of some kind, or perhaps a remote release by the operator. And I agree with you that they would have difficulties navigating along crowded inner-city streets at peak times.
Best wishes, Pete.

Pete, n to sure why this ended up in spam but that has been fixed..your points are great ones indeed…in fact, when we flew to Seattle in December we discovered robotic wheelchairs for people and they were crashing into everyone – it’s a packed airports and they were acting like it was the autobahn!
