Billy Joel’s Recording Breaking Residency! 150 Shows And An Incredible Music Mashup!

A 150-Day Residency For The Ages!

A record-breaking concert residency for Billy Joel has come to an end…

Joel’s pal Jimmy Fallon was on hand when a banner was raised to the rafters of New York’s Madison Square Garden – commemorating Billy Joel, aka the “Piano Man”, for playing 150 concerts at the legendary venue — the most lifetime performances by any artist ever!

A 50 Year Residency!

The conclusion of Joel’s residency came nearly 50 years after his first show at the Garden and more than 10 years after it started, MSG said in a statement. His first show there was Dec. 14, 1978!

For my wife Alex’s birthday, we went to show #146, and I wanted to share a few highlights from a truly spectacular evening!

As with every single show, it was packed and we had seats about twenty rows from the stage.

Joel took total command from the beginning, with terrific energy and voice. In this shot, the massive monitors above showcase the skyline of New York City while Joel sits at his piano – which rotated during the show so everyone in the house could see him!

One of the best things about the show was his expression of joy: he was clearly having a blast playing songs from a 50 year career, while telling stores about his life as well…

His voice was flawless, and his energy never flagged during the three hour show – he never left the stage!

Here he is performing “Uptown Girl”, written for his then wife Christie Brinkley, who was in the crowd dancing along to it!

Along with Christie, their daughter was also there and she came on stage at one point for a duet with her Dad!

Time To “Rock ‘n’ Roll!”

The show built into an amazing musical moment, when Billy Joel performs his iconic hit “You May Be Right.” What’s the big deal?

Well, half way though the song, he lets his band segue seamlessly into Led Zeppelin’s classic “Rock ‘n’ Roll!”

Take a listen!

What a night! The crowd energy was incredible, and so was Joel’s…in his 70’s and a three hour show with so much energy and musicianship – it was a blast!

I love live music, and I love sharing it with you:

Tears for Fears just released new music as well as live performances of their greatest hits, like this one…they sound incredible!

This band just keeps going strong – see my concert review with more videos here:

When Tears For Fears performed, Daryl Hall & John Oates were also on the bill and listen to this version of “She’s Gone”:

Sadly, the duo has broken up acrimoniously…see the story here:
