Tom Petty’s “Heartbreakers Beach Party” Is Here!
Well this is incredible new for fans of Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers!
Here’s the announcement!
“In 2024, the long-thought lost 16mm reels of Tom Petty in Cameron Crowe’s first film, “Heartbreakers Beach Party”, were finally found. The classic ‘80s documentary captures Tom Petty and the band in 1982-1983 as they finish, promote, and tour around the “Long After Dark” album (their final with legendary producer Jimmy Iovine). After its initial airing on MTV in 1983, the film was deemed too experimental and abruptly pulled from the air.”
The release goes on:
“In more than 40 years since, it has become folklore to fans, musicians and within the entertainment industry – even credited with inspiring scenes in Spinal Tap. The highly anticipated & fully remastered “Heartbreakers Beach Party” is a fun, candid, fast paced, & musically rich ride with America’s greatest rock & roll band, a time capsule of the dawn of the MTV era, and a rare & shining glimpse into Tom Petty’s lasting creative genius. This exclusive theatrical release features 19 minutes of fully remastered, never before seen, archival bonus footage and new commentary from director Cameron Crowe. “
Cameron Crowe would go on to see his first non-fiction book “Fast Times At Ridgmont High” become one of the greatest films of the 80’s – and later direct films like “Jerry Maguire” and “Almost Famous!”
Check out the tease for “Heartbreakers Beach Party!”
The film will be shown in theaters on October 17 and 20, and you can expect a home release soon! It’s just the latest Petty documentary to come out:
Have you seen this stunning and engrossing FOUR hour documentary directed by legendary Director Peter Bogdanovich?
It’s fascinating and filled with incredible music…see the trailer here:
The world lost a visionary Musical Artist when Petty died at the age of 66 from an accidental drug overdose…I think he and Prince both took too much pain medication for severe back pain…so sad.
I shared this incredible performance by both of them as they paid tribute to George Harrison’s masterpiece “While My Guitar Gently Weeps.” You must watch the video to see a stunning guitar solo by Prince! Here it is:
Since Petty’s untimely death, his estate has worked to bring out new material of songs the Artist wrote and recorded, but hadn’t released, like this:
“Wildflowers” was his masterwork in the 90’s, but 10 songs were left off – until now…see the music video for “Leave Virginia Alone” here:
Petty’s tragic death left a great hole in rock music…but even more than his solo music and the music with The Heartbreakers, he was also part of one of the greatest super groups ever!
“The Traveling Wilburys” were Petty, George Harrison, Jeff Lynne, Bob Dylan and Roy Orbison!
They had so much great music – you can see some of their best music videos here:
The Petty Estate also worked with a number of iconic musical Artists to sing some of Tom’s greatest country songs…
Her version of Petty’s classic “Southern Accents” is stunning…see the video here:
