Behold New York’s Skyline!
I am standing in Brooklyn, looking across the East river to see New York’s lower Manhattan skyline staring back….why am I here?
Because “I Know A Guy!”
Specifically, I know Adam Guy, shown here on the far right, and he has the greatest business: taking people on entertaining and informative tours of New York!
His company is called “I Know A Guy NYC” – and here is how he describes his business:
These tours provides private and personalized neighborhood walking tours for small groups up to 10 people. You’ll feel at ease while exploring this daunting yet incredible city with A GUY who knows NYC inside and out!
I’ll help you fall in love with New York and make memories with family and friends that last a lifetime.
He is NOT over-hyping himself: the day we spent with him was so much fun in so many ways!
Here’s how our day started:
We took the Roosevelt Island Tram from Manhattan’s midtown east to, of course, Roosevelt Island. Here is how it is described:
“Once closed to the public, today Roosevelt Island is home to a residential community and a number of parks and landmarks. At the island’s southern end, the Louis Kahn–designed Franklin D. Roosevelt Four Freedoms Park offers public programming and family-friendly events. Also in the historical vein: the Renwick Ruin, a former smallpox hospital; the Octagon tower, the remnants of an insane asylum; and, on the northern tip, a 19th-century lighthouse anchoring a park from where visitors can get wide-angle views of NYC.”
And what a view! There is a President Roosevelt connection to the island, which is why you see him in various areas – and some nice photo options too!
FDR sits right across from the United Nations – take a look:
There is a subway that stops on Roosevelt Island, and lots of people now live on the island with the terrific view of Manhattan.
There is a lot of history to explore, and so I made this video to capture it all…to the sounds of Billy Joel’s timeless “New York State Of Mind” – enjoy!
Adam is an expert on the city’s history and culture, and he will tailor your tour to go to any neighborhood or attraction you want!
Not only did we go to Roosevelt Island, we also headed to the West Village and then to Brooklyn Heights, and finally that last shot overlooking the city – what a great day of exploration!
And Adam arranged a great spot for a celebratory toast!
When you get home and friends tell you they’re going to NYC, you can say, “Hey, I Know A Guy!”
Here’s more about Adam:
My name is Adam Guy (hence “A Guy”), and I’ve lived in New York for more than 10 years. If I’m not attending a Broadway show or out with friends, there’s a good chance I’m exploring a great neighborhood. I enjoy discovering those secret and charming spots that scream New York and grabbing heaps of Instagram-worthy photos along the way. And I just love getting to meet people from around the world. It’s a sure bet that we’ll share loads of laughs and stories during our adventure together!
Here is his website to see even more!
This is without a doubt the way to get the most out of a day in the Big Apple – because there is so much to explore:
As this Instagram photo shows, the city has unending adventures, and for me Central Park is one of the world’s natural wonders!
And of course, Central Park has a castle!

I will be exploring more of this incredible oasis as well – but remember the time I was in New York and got my “walk on?”
196 blocks to be exact!
It was all part of my “Hitch Hiking” series, where take a fun hike and tie it in to a Hitchcock classic – in this case “Rear Window!”
See it all here!

Definitely the best way to explore a city. I like the look of Roosevelt Island too, just far enough from the hurly-burly, but close enough to enjoy the city if you want to.
If I hadn’t moved away from London, I considered to something very similar. Put 60 years of being a Londoner to good use as a tour guide. But I’m not complaining, as I love my quiet and uneventful life in Beetley.
Best wishes, Pete.
