Want A “Late Night With The Devil?” “It’s ‘Rosemary’s Baby” Meets ‘Network'” With A $666k Twist!

Ready For Some Late Night TV – With The Devil?

This past weekend, a new film opened up to critical acclaim and a surprise box office bounty – not only coming in 6th place at the box office, but also bringing in a reported $666,666 on Sunday! It’s as if the devil ran the box office charts!

Filmmaker Kevin Smith himself called this “Rosemary’s Baby Meets Network!” And it is!

My wife and I went out to see this film on that devilish $666k Sunday – part of a surprise $3-mil+ opening weekend! Here’s the story of “Late Night With The Devil!”

First, here’s the plot in a nutshell: A television broadcast in 1977 goes horribly wrong on Halloween night when a desperate TV Host tries to conjure the devil on live TV!

Directors Cameron Cairnes and Colin Cairnes have crafted a slow-building horror gem that audiences are loving!

Here is the trailer:

The film purports to share an uncovered “live” late night TV show, shown for the first time since the horrific event aired on TV!

David Dastmalchian stars as the Late Night TV Host, who is so worried about losing his show due to low ratings that he decides to hold a live “reach out to the devil” on Halloween night to boost ratings.

Ingrid Torelli is the young girl who may or may not house a horrific spirit, and Laura Gordon is the para-psychologist who has been trying to help her.

With the exception of this set-up to the film, if will be more satisfying for you not to know anything else: let it unfold with its own pace and rhythm…in fact, it does play like watching a classic episode of late night TV – well, up to a point!

Bravo to the entire team behind this film: it’s a tight script that peels like an onion, revealing layer after layer – and the performances are terrific all down the line – there are many other people involved in this and wait until you see what happens to them!

Now, back to the review that said it was “Rosemary’s Baby” meets “Network!”

This shocking film was based on the novel by Ira Levin, who also wrote the horror thriller “The Stepford Wives” – check out both great films here!

As for “Network”, it’s one of the greatest films about the world of TV ever!

It was nominated for Best Picture of 1976, and the late Peter Finch won the Best Actor Oscar for his portrayal of a mad Anchorman – and the character Actor Ned Beatty has a great scene in the film – see the overview of the film and that scene here:

If all of this makes you want more slow-building horror, have you seen this?

You can find this horror gem online now as well – check out the trailer and more here:

  1. I have read nothing but rave reviews about this film, John. So it’s great to have you confirm them, as I always respect your opinion. It isn’t showing anywhere near me, so I may have to wait for the DVD.

    Best wishes, Pete.
