RIP Carl Weathers….The Brilliant Actor Was 76…An Homage To Apollo Creed And Chubbs…

RIP Carl Weathers…

Such sad news to share – as reported on Deadline.com:

Carl Weathers, who starred as Apollo Creed in the first three Rocky films and appeared in Predator, The Mandalorian, Happy Gilmore and dozens of other films and TV shows, died Tuesday, his family announced. He was 76.

“We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Carl Weathers,” his family said in a statement. “He died peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, February 1st, 2024. … Carl was an exceptional human being who lived an extraordinary life. Through his contributions to film, television, the arts and sports, he has left an indelible mark and is recognized worldwide and across generations. He was a beloved brother, father, grandfather, partner, and friend.”

He appeared in dozens of films and TV shows, but this role will be remembered as his most iconic:

Weathers was brilliant as Heavyweight champion Apollo Creed, who schedules a fight against the unknown Rocky Balboa…we all know what happened:

“Rocky” won best picture, Apollo won the match, and the sequel pitted them against each other again…

Weathers also was terrific at comedy, like when he played Chubbs, the professional golfer who lost his hand to an alligator – but finds redemption when he trains Happy Gilmore to become a professional golfer!

Weathers has a blast with his fake hand, which is so obvious that it makes the gag even funnier!

There are so many other great performances…a very sad loss…when he dies in “Gilmore”, Weathers shows us what life in heaven will be like for him…

RIP Carl Weathers…

  2. I only really know him from Rocky, so it’s good to know he did so much more.

Hard not to notice that so many celebrities are very close to my age when they die. Worrying!

    Best wishes, Pete.
