My Live Jackson Browne Concert Review!
My wife and I went to see Jackson Browne live at New York’s iconic Beacon Theaters last Friday night, and he was incredible!
Here’s my review of this show – with clips of some of his greatest songs as well!
Jackson had a five piece band and two terrific backing singers, who you will hear a lot in the clips I am about to share…well, why not right now?
Here is an early highlight as Jackson sounds in perfect voice for “Rock Me On The Water!”
The show was presented in two parts, and Browne mixed hit songs with some great album tracks like “Sky Blue And Black” and this one – the iconic “Before The Deluge”:
A special thank you to Jackson for allowing his music to be shared on YouTube this way – much appreciated by all of his fans!
I read what the setlist was the previous night, and Jackson was mixing and matching his songs a bit – there was no “Pretender” this night, but there was a gorgeous version of “Somebody’s Baby”:
As you would expect, the show builds to a number of great highlights:
First, Jackson sat at the piano for a beautiful version of “For A Dancer”, then stood and led the band through a rousing version of “Running On Empty!”
Browne then stood up and told the crowd he had just had a dream about Glenn Frey, the former Eagles member..it was a poignant set-up for the song that Jackson wrote with him….here is the iconic “Take It Easy!”
Browne ended with a singalong “The Load-Out / Stay”, leaving the fans singing along and so excited after a show that lasted almost three hours!
Bravo Jackson for a great night of entertainment- and about that classic Eagles hit:
“Take It Easy” was their first big hit, on one of the greatest debut albums of all time – the very first Eagles album with the classic cover – fueled by Jackson’s “Take It Easy” as well as “Peaceful Easy Feeling” and “Witchy Woman!”
Click here for a track-by-track look at this incredible album which sounds as fresh today as when it was released!
Of course, this debut album has a great story – because Linda Ronstadt encouraged them to do it!
Here’s that story of the “birth of the Eagles!”
Linda Ronstadt is an Icon – and one of the nicest people ever – and of course one of the greatest singers of all time:
Her story is fascinating as well…click here to see details about her terrific documentary, which dives deep into her music:

Thank you – he was indeed…a bit more reflective in his song choices, leaving out a few hits my wife would have known more than wheat he played but it’s all beautiful music and I was in heaven!

What a concert this must have been! Thank you for bringing Jackson Browne full circle with the Eagles and Linda Ronstadt. I loved the photos and videos. Did you stay in your seat, or stand up and clap/dance?

The style of music lent itself to a mixture – his softer music was great to sit to, but there are probably a dozen times in the 28-song set where you stand and dance!

glad to hear he’s still out there and it sounds like it was a great show! nothing like a live concert, and I love his glen Frey dream.

Wow! I haven’t seen him in so long I don’t think I’d recognize him. (Partly, it’s the beard, which I’m unfamiliar with.) It’s great to know he’s still sounding good and making great music. Some of these groups and musicians hang on until they’re far past their prime.

Wow, you’re taking me back to my youth. I survived high school thanks to Jackson Brown and the Eagles. I’d put on his Running on Empty or the Eagles Live album and let it play over and over again until I figured out my chemistry or calc. It’s amazing to think of how many artists Brown has touched or influenced. Thanks for the road trip back in time.

A great post, John, about a great concert. He changes his set list around a fair bit, doesn’t he. When I saw him in 2010 he didn’t play Before The Deluge, my favourite, but there is a video on YouTube of him playing it at a show three days earlier! Seeing him was a bucket list thing for me and I was so glad I could do it.
It must be sad and strange for him playing without David Lindley alongside him, though. They had been friends for so long and David was a huge part of the show I saw.

Great to hear he is still going strong, and I enjoyed his solo version of Take It Easy a lot. He gave a great value concert at 3 hours too.
Best wishes, Pete.
