The World’s Wildest “Sky High” Hikes! Straight Up The “Kalavantin Durg” Trek In Mumbai!

Who’s Up For A “Sky High” Hike?

My wife and I love to hike – proof shared below – but first, I always research cool places for us to visit – like “Kalavantin Durg!”

This is a 2,250 ft high summit located in the Western Ghats, near the Prabalgad fort in the Raigad district of Maharashtra, India.

It is also known as Kelve Teen, Kalavantinicha Sulka, or Kalavantin Pinnacle; and since we want to make a trek to India one day, a stop here would be amazing!

Wow!

As these images show, it’s a winding trek up a narrow path – let’s go!

Imagine being on the side of this mountain on that narrow path…what an adrenaline rush!

I found some hilariously candid pics from the trail:

I found this short article naming it as one of the most exhilarating hikes in the world!

“A near-vertical stairway to the pinnacle

A work of art centuries ago. These steps were hand-cut and sheer physical efforts went during the 15th century. The giant steps carved out have good space for two people to stand on.

Check this out!

Here’s what was written bout the hike:

“The Pinnacle of Kalavantin is a thrilling experience that one goes for. Amongst the trekking circle, there is a misconception that It is considered as a very dangerous or treacherous trek. The angle of the photos or videos takes this angle for this whole trek. With enough precautions and knowing the trek well, the trek is one adventure that you should go on. “

My wife Alex would love this – you know, I have shared some of her wildest hikes, like when she made it to the top of Angel’s Landing in Zion National Park:

Oh, in case you were wondering what the big deal is – here are a few more shots, including her pointing up to where we were headed:

I shared this video of the “trail” that you take near the top – a step chain to hold onto so you don’t fall 1,800 feet to your death (and yes, dozens have over the decades):

You can see our entire adventure here:

I also shared this video hiking down into the Grand Canyon:

I didn’t go all the way down, but you can – it’s very dangerous in the hot summer months – click here to see more about this wild hike:

And we also hiked to a beautiful waterfall in Yosemite national park:

Another magical place – here is one of the hikes we took there:

  1. What an adrenaline rush indeed! Sam is off to India in a few weeks’ time, but he’ll be too busy with work stuff to even think about doing that climb!

  3. I am too old to do that descent in India now, but I might have attempted it 30 years ago. Not on a day when the steps were that wet though! 🙂
    Best wishes, Pete.
