Happy “Shocktober 2022”! Here Are Five Halloween Horror Films To Make The Season Scary!

Happy Halloween 2021!

It’s that time of the year again – time to watch a scary movie and celebrate the season!

Here are five ways to celebrate this scary time of year!

“Carrie!”

This is one of my five favorite films of all time: a brilliant look at a lonely young woman who is bullied in school:

Yes, that’s John Travolta and Nancy Allen – they pull a prank on Carrie at the prom, and things take a horrifying turn:

Sissy Spacek was nominated for an Academy Award as Best Actress for her performance – and I shared an in-depth look at the film, and how it shared a casting session with another small film at the same time:

Yep, Director Brian DePalma did a joint casting session with George Lucas, who was looking for his Princess Leia for “Star Wars!”

You can see much more about “Carrie”, and also check out the terrific “haunted house” film “The Changeling” as well!

You can click here to see trailers and more details on this terrific horror double bill:

If you like psychological horror, here’s one of the greatest!

“Rosemary’s Baby!”

Author Ira Levin wrote the terrific novel “The Stepford Wives”, which is also a great Halloween thriller…but he also wrote this brilliant novel about Rosemary, who has strange New York neighbors and a very difficult pregnancy – for a reason!

This is a GREAT horror film, beautifully acted and directed by Roman Polanski. There are some really fascinating stories about the making of the film as well.

Click here to see why “Rosemary’s Baby” was too much for Frank Sinatra, who left his wife Mia Farrow because of it!

Here’s one of the more recent horror films my wife and I enjoyed:

Modern horror films can sometimes focus too much on “found footage” and “eerie apparitions” for me…I like a horror film that smacks me right in the face, and “The Nun” does just that!

It’s one of the films I highlighted that are intended to shock you, along with the original “Candyman” and “The Exorcist” as well.

Click here to see the trailers for all three and more!

So, there are some of my favorite “go to” scary movies for this Halloween season – and if you want to keep that scary vibe alive all month long, here’s an idea:

Yes, you can own this wild Pennywise “IT” clown door mat!

  1. I loved Rosemary’s Baby, and I think it’s because it’s real horror, like Alfred Hitchcock. The blood and gore horror isn’t the scary that that stays with you, like Rosemary’s Baby. On a side note, I am still totally creeped out by Anthony Perkins.

  3. I still have not seen The Nun! Maybe I should get around to doing so this year

  4. That’s a good selection, John. I would add two films to that list, both with foreign language and subtitles.
‘Ringu’ (1998), and ‘Martyrs’. (The original 2008 film, not the remake.)
    Best wishes, Pete.
