New York’s Incredible “Skinny-Scrapers!” Plus Cracked Skyscrapers! Tilted Buildings Too!

New York’s New Trend: Skinny Skyscrapers!

It’s been a few years since I was in “The Big Apple”, and I’m amazed at the new trend – New York’s skyscrapers have all gotten skinny!

Alex is here for work and I tagged along – and every morning a brisk walk in Central Park reveals these new skyscrapers towering above us – but they are so much thinner than previous ones…look how they stick out on the horizon.

This view from Central Park really gives the perspective about how thin they are!

So, would you like to live in a building that thin and that high?

What do you think of this one below – with a crazy terrace sticking out from the building! Is that for you?

And what about this one – built as if to provide King Kong with steps to the top!

Now, think about it – would you liv win the top of this? Even stand there?

Check out this one – multiple layers in a unique design – and an elevator on the outside!

Here’s one that looks as if it has a crack running through it…just to the left of a building with what appears to have a few pieces missing!

And what about this skyscraper that looks like a Jenga game about to collapse…

Speaking of collapsing, check out how this building is being built – on a slant!

If you miss those classic old style Big Apple buildings, here’s a classic – brick, squat, living in the shade of a new building with outside fire escapes AND a water tower on top!

And here’s one more trend I’ve been seeing – take a classic building like the one above and build a skyscraper on top of it!

I had a blast checking out all of New York’s new architecture – I have a long history of walking this incredible city, especially in the magical world of Central Park:

That included this ramble through “the ramble”:

I have posted a number of “Hitch hiking” segments, where I go on a cool hike and tie it to an Alfred Hitchcock film – like the thriller “Rear Window!”

Click here for a walk in the park and a great film teaser as well:

All that walking made me hungry, so I ate at one of the New York’s most iconic restaurants!

  2. Very cool! I like the King Kong steps and the Jenga style. Interestingly, the building with the dark crack lines across makes me think of the planes crashing into the twin towers- so that one is not for me. These new structures are really fun. Thanks, John. I remember your Central Park post- fabulous!
