Remember 2019’s Incredible “Super Bloom?”
I’m looking back at some of my favorite posts of 2019, and I realized it was time for California’s “super bloom”…or was it?
As you can see, the last one attracted many many Photographers – in fact it was so crowded they had to shut it down for awhile!
The “super bloom” is caused by excessive rainfall in California during the winter months, causing the bloom to arrive spectacular in the spring. Sadly, California’s drought was very bad this year, so we will no have nature showing up for us this year.
Luckily, we got to see it up close – there were special paths to ensure no one trampled the flowers…
With no “super bloom” in 2022, here are some of those incredible “Super Bloom” photos from March of 2019…talk about nature showing off!
The entire state of California was deluged with rain for the first few months of 2019, turning a state that was more than 60% drought stricken to one that was suddenly soaked with water – and all that rain paid off in a spectacularly beautiful way!
As USA Today reported at the time:
It started with the desert lilies in December. Since then a wave of wildflower blooms has been crescendoing across Southern California’s Anza-Borrego desert in a burst of color so vivid it can be seen from mountain tops thousands of feet above.

Eureka typically has a lot of rain in the winter, but we’re also in a drought. It was a rainy December, but it has been relatively dry since. I think I read that we typically have 15 inches of rain by this point in the year, and we’ve only had 2.5 inches so far.

It’s sad for we don’t have super bloom this year, but thank you for sharing 2019’s one! It’s amazing😍
We’re planning to go cherry blossom viewing this coming weekend. As I read some article said they fully bloom in April, so I waited, and now I hear a lot of people saying it’s a little too late here in Bay Area😂😂😂

Fabulous! I hope to see the super bloom someday! But maybe I’ll still see a normal year’s spring blooms on our road trip!
